Background
Jonathan Goldenstein is a co-founder and Partner of Kingfish Group, the private equity advisory and investment firm he helped establish in 2004 alongside Kevin Macdonald and Christian Dubiel. At Kingfish he leads firm strategy and organizational development, with a particular emphasis on assembling and guiding high-performing teams. He has grown the firm from a startup into an organization of more than 40 people across five offices (San Francisco, Boston, Denver, Washington DC, and Pune, India). According to the firm, Kingfish has advised on more than $10 billion in private equity transactions over the past decade-plus and has made direct equity investments into a large number of private companies.
Before Kingfish, Goldenstein co-founded Tropos Networks, a wireless mesh networking company later acquired by ABB, where he defined the sales, marketing, and product strategy that brought a category-defining product to market — with systems eventually deployed at more than 1,000 customers across 50+ countries. He also worked as an investment professional at JAFCO America Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, and earlier served as a consultant/business analyst at McKinsey & Company, where he developed distribution and sales strategies for Fortune 500 companies.
Goldenstein earned a B.A. in Economics and English from Brandeis University, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He brings more than 20 years of combined experience across private equity investing, venture capital, and operating company-building.
