Background

Jonathan Piquet joined Citizen Capital in 2019 as an Investment Director and later became Partner, Growth. Citizen Capital says he is responsible for its Growth & Capital Development Fund. The firm describes itself as a French impact-investment platform founded in 2008, managing more than €275M across growth capital, agriculture, and social-enterprise/nonprofit strategies.

Before Citizen Capital, Piquet worked at Proparco, the private-sector financing arm of Agence Française de Développement, where he managed growth-capital transactions in Africa through both direct and indirect investments. Earlier, he held investment roles in French private equity, including Bridgepoint Capital in Paris, where he became an Associate and worked on growth-capital and buyout transactions in the French lower midmarket.

Piquet graduated from ESSEC Business School, including studies in Paris and Singapore with a specialization in social entrepreneurship, and from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs in New York. Citizen Capital also notes that he has worked or volunteered with nonprofits, NGOs, microfinance institutions, and the United Nations on topics including inclusive education and economic development.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests through Citizen Capital’s Growth & Capital Development strategy, focused on Series B, growth, and capital-development rounds in France and Europe.
  • Looks for mission-driven companies where social or environmental impact is central to the business model and can reinforce financial performance.
  • Citizen Capital’s Growth strategy targets teams placing mission “at the heart” of the project as a driver of performance, with revenue generally above €4M–€5M.
  • Prefers to lead or co-lead financing rounds so the firm can be deeply involved in supporting company growth.
  • In human-capital and future-of-work investments, Piquet has said Citizen Capital aims at “the capacity of people to regain control over their professional trajectory.”
  • In impact investing, Piquet argues that social and environmental issues should not be separated; in his 2025 Maddyness article, he wrote that impact investors should refuse to choose between “environment” and “social.”
  • Themes he has publicly emphasized include education, employability, skills development, inclusion, healthcare access, mobility, climate-impact verification, and the circular economy.
