Background
Jonathan Stanley, commonly referred to publicly as Jon Stanley, is one of the Stanley brothers associated with Charlotte’s Web, the CBD and hemp-extract company built around the low-THC, high-CBD cultivar that became widely known after Charlotte Figi’s epilepsy story was covered nationally. SEC filings for Charlotte’s Web identify the Stanley brothers, including Jonathan Stanley, as founders of CWB Holdings, Inc., the predecessor to Charlotte’s Web, which was formed on December 8, 2013.
Charlotte’s Web’s public filings state that each of the Stanley brothers, including Jonathan Stanley, entered into a three-year brand-ambassador employment agreement effective September 1, 2018. Those filings also state that each of the Stanley brothers may be considered a promoter of the company. Charlotte’s Web completed its IPO in 2018 and later registered its common shares with the SEC; its filings describe the company as a hemp-extract wellness company using proprietary hemp genetics and vertically integrated cultivation, manufacturing, and distribution.
Jonathan is also documented as “Jonathan Stanley, an individual residing in the State of Colorado,” acting as trustee of the Master and A Hound Irrevocable Trust in a secured promissory-note amendment with Charlotte’s Web Holdings dated November 13, 2024. The trust role appears to be the source of the “Trustee” title in the stub data.
Beyond Charlotte’s Web, Jonathan has been linked to AJNA BioSciences. Kingscrowd’s 2025 profile of AJNA states that Jonathan Stanley and Jared Stanley founded AJNA BioSciences in April 2021. AJNA describes itself as a botanical-drug development company focused on standardized plant-derived medicines, including cannabinoid and tryptamine programs.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Public evidence points to a founder-operator investor profile rather than a conventional fund manager: Jonathan’s investable edge appears to come from category-building experience in hemp/CBD, medical cannabis, botanical drug development, genetics, and regulatory navigation.
- The most clearly documented focus is patient-centered cannabinoid and botanical medicine. In a 2023 Cambio interview, Jon Stanley emphasized affordability, consistency, strong domestic markets, and balanced regulation as priorities for medical cannabis access.
- He appears most relevant for companies working with plant-derived therapeutics, cannabinoid formulations, hemp genetics, FDA botanical-drug pathways, clinical validation, and regulated consumer-health products.
- No public check-size data was found. The stub lists seed-stage angel investing, but I found no independently verifiable public disclosure of Jonathan’s typical angel check size or formal investment criteria.
- His likely “yes” factors are grounded in the Charlotte’s Web and AJNA pattern: proprietary genetics or formulation, credible science, patient impact, repeatable manufacturing, defensible regulatory pathway, and a mission beyond commodity cannabis products.
Notable Investments
- Charlotte’s Web Holdings / CWB Holdings: Co-founded by the Stanley brothers; the company developed and commercialized proprietary full-spectrum hemp extract products and completed an IPO in 2018.
- AJNA BioSciences: Kingscrowd reports Jonathan Stanley and Jared Stanley founded AJNA in April 2021; AJNA is developing botanical drugs from cannabinoid and tryptamine formulations.
- Stanley Brothers USA: Charlotte’s Web SEC filings describe Stanley Brothers USA as a cannabis wellness incubator whose majority shareholders include certain Charlotte’s Web founders or entities controlled by them; Charlotte’s Web entered into an $8 million option arrangement with the company in 2021.
- DeFloria: A joint venture among AJNA BioSciences, Charlotte’s Web, and BAT focused on AJA001, an oral full-spectrum cannabinoid drug candidate for irritability associated with autism spectrum disorder. Jonathan’s direct ownership or board role was not publicly verified, but the company is part of the Stanley/AJNA/Charlotte’s Web ecosystem.
