Background
Jonathon K. Yormak is the founder and managing principal of East End Capital, a New York–based commercial real estate investment firm he launched in 2010–2011. East End develops, acquires, and operates properties — primarily office, mixed-use, multifamily, and retail — in markets shaped by technology, content creation, healthcare, and venture-driven demographic growth, with a heavy concentration in New York City and Miami's Wynwood district. He runs the firm's day-to-day activities; over its history he has been joined by partners including David Peretz (co-founder) and, more recently, Shep Wainwright.
Before founding East End, Yormak was a Managing Principal at both Ruben Companies and Broadway Partners. He was one of the five original partners at Broadway Partners, where the team acquired value-add office buildings across major U.S. coastal markets — buying over $25 billion of commercial office space during his tenure. On a combined basis across those roles, he acquired, repositioned, and managed an office portfolio exceeding 15 million square feet nationwide, plus roughly 1,000 residential units in New York City and Boston. He is known for deep capital-markets expertise, having sourced and structured billions of dollars of equity and debt.
Earlier in his career, Yormak practiced as a real estate attorney at Fried Frank and Pryor Cashman, handling acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, financings, and REIT mergers. He earned his undergraduate degree from Colby College and his JD from Fordham University School of Law (mid-1990s).
Beyond the firm, Yormak has been active in civic and philanthropic life. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Wynwood Business Improvement District and has been a long-time board member of the UJA-Federation of New York and The Children's Hearing Institute. In 2016 he was honored by the New York AIR Society (affiliated with National Jewish Health).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in and develops commercial real estate, not startups — core property types are office, mixed-use, multifamily, retail, and industrial.
- Targets markets "driven by technology, content creation, healthcare, venture capital investment and compelling demographic trends" (firm's own framing), with New York City and Miami as anchor markets.
- Pursues a value-add / opportunistic approach: acquiring and repositioning assets, ground-up development, and adaptive reuse — consistent with his prior 15M+ sq ft repositioning track record.
- Emphasis on placemaking in emerging creative districts, most visibly Wynwood, Miami, where East End has developed office, retail, and residential product aimed at tech and creative tenants.
- Draws on capital-markets structuring as a core competency — sourcing and structuring equity and debt, and partnering with institutional co-developers (e.g., the Related Group).
- Stated ambition to "establish East End as an institutionally governed best-in-class real estate investment firm."
Notable Investments
- Wynwood 25 (Miami) — large rental + retail development co-developed with the Related Group; secured (with Wynwood Annex) $136M in refinancing in 2020.
- Wynwood Annex (Miami) — eight-story, ~40,000 sq ft office building beside Wynwood 25; backed by an $11.6M construction loan with Related Group.
- 100 Biscayne Blvd. (Downtown Miami) — acquired the office tower (historically the New World Tower) for ~$84M, with ~$10M of planned upgrades to attract tech and creative tenants.
- Wynwood warehouses — closed a $14.5M purchase of Wynwood warehouse assets (part of the firm's early Wynwood assembly).
- Wynwood Arcade (Miami) — artistic retail and dining destination in East End's Miami portfolio.
- Co-living platform, 2400 & 2500 North Miami Avenue — launched 2020; co-living/micro units, co-working, Class A office, and retail totaling 525,000+ sq ft.

- Wynwood retail building — sold for ~$11M in 2022.
