Background

Jorge Huitron is a private-markets investment specialist who has spent his career advising institutions on and selecting managers across alternative asset classes. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Harvard University. Early in his career he was a Senior Consulting Associate at Cambridge Associates for roughly four years before moving into manager research at the institutional advisory firm bfinance.

At bfinance, Huitron spent about seven and a half years, rising from Senior Associate to Director in private-market research. There he worked on investments across listed equities, commodities and the full range of private-market strategies — from real estate to private equity — building a technical understanding of relative-value investing across both public and private markets. bfinance is a London-headquartered investment consultancy (with a Munich office, among others) that advises institutional investors on manager selection — which is why the stub data carries a bfinance email and the Munich office phone number.

In early 2015 he left bfinance to join Aon Hewitt as a Senior Consultant within the Manager Research team, where he covered the European private equity sector and advised public and corporate pension plans on their private equity investments.

In October 2019, Huitron was appointed Senior Product Specialist for private markets within HSBC Global Asset Management's alternatives team, based in London and reporting into the global head of alternative products, Steven Ward. His remit is to develop HSBC's private-markets offering and expand the platform to a larger institutional investor base across Europe and Asia; he is currently described as Head of Private Markets Investment Specialists at HSBC Asset Management.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Focuses on institutional private-markets fund/manager selection and product specialism, not direct startup or seed investing — across private equity, private debt, infrastructure and real estate.
  • Brings a relative-value lens spanning public and private markets (listed equities and commodities through to private equity and real estate), assessing managers on a comparative-value basis.
  • At HSBC, the mandate is to build out and distribute a private-markets platform to institutional clients across Europe and Asia, reflecting a conviction (in his own words) that "private markets are experiencing phenomenal growth."
  • Prior advisory work centered on European private equity for pension-plan clients — emphasizing manager due diligence, portfolio construction and the institutional buyer's perspective rather than founder-level deal sourcing.

Notable Investments

Huitron's roles have been on the manager-selection, advisory and product side rather than as a named direct/venture investor, so there are no publicly attributable startup deals or portfolio companies. His "investments" are better understood as the private-markets fund strategies and managers he has researched, selected or advised on for institutional clients while at bfinance, Aon Hewitt and HSBC Asset Management. No individual portfolio companies are disclosed in public sources.
