Background

Josh Reidinger joined the firm that became Warren Averett Asset Management in November 1996 and spent his entire career there, rising to President and ultimately Chief Executive Officer. He advised affluent, multi-generational families through a comprehensive approach spanning investment management, philanthropy, and tax, estate, and financial planning. He is credited with playing an instrumental role in building the firm (dated to 1999 in several accounts) and growing it into one of the leading serial acquirers in the RIA industry.

Reidinger earned a business degree with an accounting concentration from Samford University (1993–1997) and a Master of Accountancy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB, 1997–1998), and he held the CPA credential. In 2012 he received Samford University's Distinguished Accounting Alumni Award.

In 2021, the asset-management business split from its parent accounting firm, Warren Averett CPAs & Advisors, and secured a capital agreement with Wealth Partners Capital Group and HGGC to fund organic growth and M&A. The firm subsequently rebranded as Waverly Advisors. Under Reidinger's leadership it reached roughly $15.9 billion in assets under management and more than 250 employees. Accounting Today placed the firm in its "Billion Dollar Club" and named it among the top CPA financial planners in the U.S.

Reidinger was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma (bile-duct cancer) in February 2024 and died on December 1, 2024, at age 49. He was known for deep roots in the Birmingham community, a strong Christian faith, and a passion for running (which he also coached). He is survived by his wife, Whitney, and children Ellen, Camille, and J.C. Following his death, Waverly president Justin Russell — a longtime colleague — took on the CEO role.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Operated a fee-only wealth management / RIA model, not startup angel investing — clients are high-net-worth families, corporate retirement plans, institutions, endowments, and trusts.
  • Comprehensive planning philosophy: identify what "thriving" means for each client, then build plans around investment management plus tax, estate, and philanthropic goals.
  • Growth through acquisition: Waverly became one of the RIA industry's most active serial acquirers, backed by Wealth Partners Capital Group and HGGC capital (2021).
  • Philanthropy embedded in the firm's operating philosophy. In his own words: *"It is ingrained in our DNA. We believe that we were put on this earth to serve,"* and *"If you've been given much, you owe so much back."* The firm sponsored ~150 children through Compassion International and supported Restoration Academy in Birmingham.

Notable Investments

  • Waverly Advisors' RIA roll-up strategy — as CEO he drove serial acquisitions of registered investment advisers across the U.S., growing AUM to ~$15.9B. *(Specific target-firm names were not verified in the sources reviewed and are omitted to avoid fabrication.)*
  • 2021 Wealth Partners Capital Group / HGGC investment — outside capital secured to fund WAAM/Waverly's organic and M&A growth after its split from Warren Averett CPAs & Advisors.
