Background

Joshua Suchow is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of Irving Place Capital, a New York–based private equity firm focused on leveraged-buyout and growth investments in middle-market companies. He joined the firm in 2015. In this role he is responsible for the firm's finance, operations, and regulatory-compliance functions rather than deal sourcing or portfolio investing.

Before Irving Place Capital, Suchow worked in public accounting serving alternative-investment clients. He was a Senior Audit Associate in the Alternative Investments group at KPMG LLP, and firm materials also associate him with Rothstein Kass, an accounting firm historically known for its hedge-fund and private-equity audit practice. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and earned a B.A. (in accounting and finance), *magna cum laude*, from Muhlenberg College.

Suchow also serves as CFO and CCO of Radial Equity Partners, a firm that spun out of Irving Place Capital in 2019 under co-managing partner Philip M. Carpenter III to focus independently on middle-market industrial investments (manufacturing, value-added distribution, and services). Radial reports having completed 52 transactions totaling over $2.8 billion of enterprise value. Suchow oversees finance and operations across both affiliated platforms.

Irving Place Capital itself traces to Bear Stearns Merchant Banking (founded 1997), which spun out as an independent firm on November 1, 2008 after Bear Stearns' collapse. The firm has managed roughly $5.9 billion in committed capital and is headquartered at 745 Fifth Avenue in New York.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Suchow is a finance and compliance officer, not a deal partner — he does not personally set an investment thesis or write investment checks based on available sources.
  • At the firm level, Irving Place Capital pursues control buyouts and growth-capital investments in middle-market companies in industrial, packaging, consumer, and retail sectors.
  • Radial Equity Partners (where he is also CFO/CCO) targets middle-market industrial businesses across three models: manufacturing, value-added distribution, and services, positioning itself as a long-term "good steward" partner to management teams.
  • Both firms operate in traditional private equity (equity control positions in established, cash-generative businesses) — a very different profile from seed-stage angel investing.

Notable Investments

  • Aéropostale — teen apparel retailer.
  • CamelBak — hydration and outdoor gear brand.
  • Stuart Weitzman — luxury footwear brand.
  • Seven for All Mankind — premium denim/apparel brand.
  • Vitamin Shoppe — specialty health and nutrition retailer.
  • Pet Supplies Plus — pet specialty retail chain.
  • *(Radial Equity Partners portfolio: middle-market industrial/distribution/services businesses; Radial reports 52 transactions totaling $2.8B+ enterprise value.)*
