Background
Juliana Jan is a long-serving executive at Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd, Malaysia's premier early-stage startup financier, which she joined in 2004. Over two decades there she has built deep experience across market research, grant evaluation, and venture capital funding, and she played a major role on the working committee that established several of Cradle's flagship funding products, including CIP Catalyst, CIP500, the Co-investment programme, and DEQ800. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly the University of Missouri–Rolla).
On 15 April 2019, Cradle Seed Ventures (CSV) — the venture capital arm of Cradle Fund — named Juliana as its Acting CEO, effective immediately, following the departure of previous CEO Dzuleira Abu Bakar. At the time of that appointment she was Cradle's Chief Investment Officer and was described as having more than 15 years of senior management experience, including roughly a decade specifically in venture capital funding, market research, and grants.
Since then her role has evolved back within the parent organisation. Cradle's leadership page currently lists her as Senior Vice President, Grant & Investment (also referenced as SVP, Group Operations), where she continues to focus on identifying and developing high-growth-potential early-stage Malaysian startups. The Acting CEO seat at Cradle Seed Ventures is now held by Norman Matthieu Vanhaecke, who is also Cradle Fund's Group CEO.
Note: the "Angel Investors" label in the stub is imprecise — Juliana invests institutionally through Cradle Fund and Cradle Seed Ventures (a government-linked, fund-based early-stage investor), not as a private angel.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in Malaysian early-stage technology startups that show a clear path of growth and profitability.
- Through CSV Fund 1, writes equity checks of RM1 million–RM3 million for minority stakes, spanning seed through Series A / early growth.
- Concentrates on three technology verticals: Internet & Mobile Technology/Business, Software & Enterprise Solutions, and Engineering & Hardware.
- Prioritises sectors mapped to Malaysia's National Key Economic Areas — fintech/financial services, tourism, healthcare, education, and e-commerce.
- At Cradle, her mandate blends grant funding and equity investment, reflecting a long track record of building the funding "on-ramps" (CIP Catalyst, CIP500, Co-investment, DEQ800) that move Malaysian founders from grant stage to institutional capital.
