Background

Jürgen Dieter Raeke is a Hamburg-based investment professional with roughly 35–40 years of capital-markets experience at German and Luxembourg banks and family offices. Early in his career he was deputy head of the private-client department at Landesbank Schleswig-Holstein International in Luxembourg, and he then spent six years as Director of Private Banking at Bankhaus Wölbern in Hamburg before joining Berenberg.

From 1998 to 2014 he served as Managing Director of Berenberg Private Capital, a subsidiary of the Hamburg private bank Berenberg. There he ran the real-asset business and built up the bank's family-office operation, selecting and structuring roughly 200 investments with a total volume of about €600 million. He left in September 2013 (formally departing in 2014) amid Berenberg's decision to wind down its Berenberg Office and Private Capital units, citing differing views on future business policy.

After Berenberg, Raeke became a partner at the Hamburg private-banking software/consulting firm cloudCapital Structure and led the von der Heydt Family Office (formerly Berlin & Co.) through the end of 2015. He then joined Tonn Family Office in September 2016 as a board member, leaving on his own initiative effective 31 March 2018 to "concentrate fully on real assets again." In May 2018 he joined the management of Secundus Advisory GmbH, a Hamburg specialist in the secondary market ("Zweitmarkt") for real-asset and closed-end fund investments; commercial-register data shows he stepped down from that managing-director role in early 2026. He holds German §34c and §34f advisory licenses and has managed independent real-estate/real-asset client mandates on his own account (investment-berater.net) since 2014.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Real assets first. His stated priority on leaving Tonn Family Office: *"I have decided on this step because I want to fully concentrate on real assets again."* Real estate and other tangible assets are his core competency.
  • Structuring and selection over founder betting. At Berenberg Private Capital his work was selecting and structuring investment vehicles (~200 deals, ~€600M), not backing early-stage operating companies.
  • Secondary market ("Zweitmarkt"). At Secundus Advisory he focused on advising institutional and wealthy private investors on secondary-market transactions in real-asset and closed-end fund holdings.
  • Wealth structuring / asset allocation. A recurring theme across his family-office roles is portfolio construction and wealth structuring for high-net-worth clients.
  • No documented startup/seed thesis. Despite the source stub's "seed round / angel" tags, no public source shows a venture or seed-stage startup investment focus.

Notable Investments

  • Berenberg Private Capital real-asset portfolio (1998–2014) — as MD he selected and structured ~200 investments totalling ~€600 million, concentrated in real estate and other real assets (individual holdings are not publicly itemised).
  • Secundus Advisory secondary-market mandates (2018–2026) — advised on transactions in the secondary market for real-asset / closed-end fund participations.
  • *No named startup or seed-stage portfolio companies could be verified for Jürgen Raeke; any list of startup deals would be fabricated.*
