Background
Justin DeAngelis is a Partner at Denham Capital and Global Head of Denham Sustainable Infrastructure (“DSI”), where he oversees both equity and credit strategies. Denham says he has more than 25 years of global investment and operational experience and serves on DSI’s Investment, Valuation, and Sustainability Committees.
Before becoming Global Head, DeAngelis served for roughly four years as Partner and Co-Head of DSI alongside Scott Mackin. In November 2024, Denham announced that he would take full responsibility for DSI’s strategic leadership and execution after helping grow the platform into a $3.4 billion AUM global sustainable infrastructure equity and credit business.
His earlier career was rooted in power and energy operations. Before joining Denham, he was a Director at Waypoint Energy, a Manager at Pace Global Energy and PG&E National Energy Group, and an Engineer at Delmarva Power. Denham’s biography states that he earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University and an MBA from Drexel’s LeBow College of Business.
Outside Denham, he is a member of Drexel University’s President’s Leadership Council and Alumni Board of Governors, serves on the Advancement Committee for Mount Saint Mary Academy, and participates in Columbia University’s World Projects Initiative. He has also served on the Millennium Challenge Corporation Advisory Council and on the NASP-USAID MiDA advisory council focused on mobilizing institutional investors for African infrastructure.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- DSI invests in sustainable infrastructure sectors that support the global energy transition, using both private equity and credit strategies.
- Equity strategy: global mid-market infrastructure assets with value-add potential, inflation-protected cash flows, sustainability alignment, and a buy-and-build model.
- Credit strategy: direct lending in private sustainable infrastructure credit, globally and across multiple currencies, targeting both investment-grade and high-yield debt instruments.
- Current focus sectors include power for data centers, renewable energy, EV charging/clean transportation, battery storage, transmission and distribution, and digital infrastructure.
- Denham emphasizes backing entrepreneurs and management teams with industry expertise; the firm describes itself as providing “financial resources and industry expertise” to build infrastructure and resource businesses.
- DeAngelis has emphasized data-center power as a current priority. In a 2025 Babcock & Wilcox partnership announcement, he said “time-to-power is a key focal point” for data-center developers and hyperscalers.
- In a 2026 First American Nuclear partnership announcement, DeAngelis said Denham is focused on solving the “energy bottleneck” for AI growth by pairing capital with large-scale power development experience.
- In an InsuranceAUM podcast, DeAngelis described sustainable infrastructure as primarily a private-markets opportunity and highlighted project-level private credit with long-term contracted cash flows and limited commodity risk as a fit for investment-grade credit.
