Background
Justin H. Harrison is a Managing Partner at BV Investment Partners, one of the oldest sector-focused private equity firms in North America (founded 1983, formerly known as Boston Ventures). He joined the firm in 1999 as an Associate and has risen through the ranks over more than two decades, bringing extensive experience in investment banking and principal investing. He sits on the firm's Investment and Valuation Committees, two of its most senior decision-making bodies.
Before joining BV, Harrison worked as an Analyst and Associate at JP Morgan Securities (formerly Chase Securities). He earned his B.A. in Economics from Middlebury College in 1995.
BV Investment Partners focuses squarely on the tech-enabled business services, software, and IT services sectors. Since its founding, the firm has invested in more than 110 platform companies across a dozen funds and generated several billion dollars of total value. It closed Fund XI at its $1.75 billion hard cap in September 2023 and, more recently, closed Fund XII in January 2026 at a $2.465 billion hard cap — well above its $2.0 billion target — underscoring the firm's continued scale and momentum during Harrison's tenure as a Managing Partner.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in tech-enabled business services, software, and IT services — companies that help "collect, store, disseminate, process, and utilize" the world's growing volume of data.
- Targets established, profitable, market-leading businesses, typically with ~$7M–$30M of EBITDA at investment — the opposite end of the spectrum from seed/angel investing.
- Writes large equity checks (~$65M–$175M+), pursuing both majority (control buyout) and minority (growth equity) positions, frequently as the first institutional investor in a company.
- Emphasizes partnering with founders, management teams, and families to accelerate growth through operational improvements, senior-executive recruiting, technology enhancements, and strategic add-on M&A.
- Backs its portfolio with an operating advisory board of industry executives; the firm has repeatedly made Inc.'s "Founder-Friendly Investors" list.
