Katrina Montgomery

Katrina Montgomery is an accomplished finance and accounting executive with more than 30 years of experience, including over a decade in controller-level roles. She earned a B.S. in Accounting from Grambling State University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and — per her speaker biography — has been married 29 years with two adult children.

Much of her early career was spent in the private sector, including roughly 15 years at The Boon Group (an Austin-based employee-benefits and administration company), where she rose to Controller. She later moved into higher-education finance, serving as Interim Vice President of Administration and Finance and Controller at Huston-Tillotson University (HTU), the historically Black university in Austin. At HTU she led cost-reduction initiatives, helped secure the university's recertification with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and guided the institution's finances through the COVID-19 period without layoffs.

Montgomery currently serves as Chief Financial Officer of the Austin Independent School District, a role she reached after about three years as the district's Assistant Superintendent of Finance. At AISD she has been credited with helping the district achieve top bond and Texas state financial-accountability ratings and with implementing enterprise resource planning (ERP) software across seven divisions within 18 months while maintaining 99% payroll accuracy. She was appointed a Texas Chapter Issuer Ambassador for the 27th Annual Women in Public Finance Conference and received the 2024–25 Darlene Westbrook Leadership in Education Award.

Beyond her operating roles, she is active in the Austin community, including board service with Communities In Schools of Central Texas, a nonprofit that helps students bridge the gap from high school into higher education or employment — reflecting a stated commitment to creating opportunities for students in underserved communities.
