Background

Keith T. McAslan is the Managing Partner of McAslan Consulting PC, a boutique advisory firm he formed to work with senior executives, corporate teams, private equity companies and boards on strategy execution, competitive advantage, turnarounds, mentoring, interim executive work and acquisition-related growth. His consulting site lists offices in Denver, Colorado and La Quinta, California.

McAslan was previously listed as an Operating Partner at Blackford Capital. Blackford is a Grand Rapids, Michigan-based private equity firm founded in 2010 that acquires, manages and builds founder- and family-owned lower-middle-market businesses in manufacturing, distribution and services. Blackford’s current public team page no longer lists McAslan, so his Blackford role should be treated as a former affiliation rather than a confirmed current position.

Before Blackford and McAslan Consulting, McAslan held senior operating and finance roles across private-equity-backed and public-company environments. He was President of Velcon Filters LLC and later Global General Manager for Parker Hannifin’s Velcon Filtration Division from 2010 to 2015. His biography says he helped grow Velcon from under $50MM to more than $120MM in revenue through organic growth and acquisitions, including Twin Filter BV and Warner Lewis GmbH, before Velcon’s 2012 sale to Parker Hannifin.

Earlier in his career, McAslan worked with Republic Financial Corporation as Managing Director in the Special Assets Group, served as SVP and CFO for the Engineering Division of IHS, Inc., and was President and CEO of Vernon Plastics, a Blackstone Group portfolio company. He also held finance and operations roles at Imperial Wallcoverings, Square D Company and Rockwell International. He holds a BBA and MBA from the University of Mississippi and lists executive education at Harvard Business School, Northwestern Kellogg and Dartmouth/Arles.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Blackford’s stated focus is “investing majority control positions in family- and founder-owned lower middle market businesses in manufacturing, distribution, and services.”
  • Blackford seeks established businesses with solid performance, stable cash flows, proven profitability, revenue of $20MM-$200MM and EBITDA of $3MM-$20MM.
  • The firm looks for companies that can grow with added capital, management support, operational excellence and board/operator expertise.
  • McAslan’s own advisory focus centers on strategy, structure and talent, CEO mentoring, turnarounds, market expansion, acquisitions and improving valuation growth potential.
  • McAslan’s operating background suggests strongest fit with companies needing hands-on improvement in finance, operational execution, integrations, turnarounds, international expansion or sale preparation.
