Background
Kenneth Andrew MacNaughton was a senior finance executive at Benson Elliot Capital Management, the UK-based private equity real estate manager founded in 2005. A 2014 Benson Elliot announcement said he joined the firm in 2009 after working at Cambridge Place Investment Management and Security Capital European Realty, and that he had more than 14 years of experience as a Chief Financial Officer at the time of his promotion.
MacNaughton was promoted from CFO to Partner in June 2014, alongside Philipp Braschel. Benson Elliot said he oversaw the firm’s Finance and Legal teams, served as Compliance Officer, and was responsible for financial reporting, tax, fund-level financing and fund structuring. The same announcement stated that he played an integral role in investments made by Benson Elliot funds.
SEC filings for Benson Elliot Real Estate Partners V identify MacNaughton as “Chief Financial Officer and Partner” and show him signing a Form D filing dated April 10, 2018. Companies House records identify him as Kenneth Andrew MacNaughton, an LLP member of PineBridge Benson Elliot LLP appointed on June 1, 2014 and resigned on February 20, 2025.
Benson Elliot was acquired by PineBridge Investments in December 2020 and renamed PineBridge Benson Elliot. PineBridge describes the platform as a pan-European real estate private equity specialist with two decades of investment experience, deep market knowledge and in-house operational expertise.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- PineBridge Benson Elliot’s stated approach is to create value through targeted European real estate investing, with an emphasis on “proactive asset management” and identifying “under-managed or under-invested properties” whose value can be unlocked.
- The platform targets pan-European real estate opportunities across commercial, hospitality and residential sectors; PERE describes its strategy as value-added and opportunistic.
- The firm emphasizes alignment with investors, relationship networks built over decades, and hands-on operational expertise.
- Benson Elliot’s earlier stated approach was “asset-driven, value-add, risk-sensitive and exit-focused,” with a preference for modestly sized funds to deploy capital more quickly and reduce erosion of transaction-level returns.
- MacNaughton’s role was not a typical angel or seed-investor role; public sources support a finance, compliance, fund structuring and investment-execution role inside a real estate private equity platform.
