Background

Kent Wakeford is a technology operator, company builder, board member, and angel investor with a career spanning digital media, ad tech, mobile gaming, esports, blockchain, and computational biology. He began his career as a corporate attorney at O’Melveny & Myers, representing entertainment and media clients, after earning a J.D. from the University of Southern California and an undergraduate degree from UCLA.

Wakeford moved into digital media at Netscape and AOL, where he served as a vice president and worked on more than 250 partnerships across AOL, Time Inc., Turner, and Warner Bros. He later held senior roles at AddThis and The Enthusiast Network, and co-founded Integral Ad Science, the ad verification and measurement company that later became publicly traded on Nasdaq under the ticker IAS.

From 2011 to 2017, Wakeford was COO of Kabam, where he helped scale the mobile games company to more than 1,000 employees across seven countries. Skillz’s 2024 proxy statement says Kabam games were played by more than 500 million people, generated over $1 billion in revenue, and that Wakeford helped lead Kabam’s sale to Netmarble for $800 million. In 2017 he joined Skillz’s board of directors and co-founded KSV/Gen.G, an esports organization that operated teams including Seoul Dynasty and later rebranded from KSV to Gen.G.

More recently, Wakeford co-founded Colossal Biosciences and Form Bio. BIO describes Form Bio as a computational biology platform whose mission is to empower scientists to discover and manufacture cures for human diseases. In 2025, BioCentury reported that Michelle Chen became Form Bio’s CEO, succeeding co-founders Andrew Busey and President/COO Kent Wakeford, with Busey and Wakeford moving into strategic adviser and executive chair roles.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Seed-stage angel investor with a reported $100K–$5.0M range and $1.5M sweet spot, according to NFX Signal.
  • Invests where he has deep operator pattern recognition: games, mobile, esports, ad tech, media, performance marketing, Web3/blockchain, computational biology, gene therapy, and biotech infrastructure.
  • His Form Bio thesis centers on software and machine learning as leverage for life sciences. In his own launch post, Wakeford wrote that Colossal’s CRISPR and genome-assembly work revealed that “software and machine learning” could empower scientists and that Form’s mission is to help scientists reach discoveries with “a fraction of the time and effort.”
  • He appears to favor companies that combine large market transitions with measurable infrastructure: examples include CTV performance advertising at tvScientific, autophagy-based neurodegeneration therapeutics at Samsara Therapeutics, and gaming/esports platforms such as Skillz, Gen.G, Carbonated, and Now Do.
  • Operator-investor fit matters: his public record shows board, founder, or advisory roles alongside investments, rather than a purely passive portfolio approach.
