Background

Kevin Hibbert is the Chief Financial Officer and a Senior Managing Partner of Sprott Inc., a Toronto-headquartered global asset manager focused on precious metals and critical materials (roughly US$65 billion in assets under management as of early 2026). He co-heads Sprott's Enterprise Shared Services Group, where his remit covers external financial reporting, investment operations, tax, treasury, financial planning and analysis, investor relations and corporate communications, information technology, and office facilities and administration. He was appointed CFO in 2015 at age 38 — described in coverage as the youngest CFO of a publicly traded Canadian asset-management firm at the time.

Hibbert earned an honours degree in Management (with high distinction) from the University of Toronto and went on to qualify as a chartered accountant. He began his career spending just over four years at Ernst & Young in financial services, rising to Audit Manager. He was then recruited by Standard & Poor's (S&P Global Ratings) as Chief Accountant, after which he joined CIBC's Chief Accounting division as Head of Finance, Policy & Advisory. He subsequently spent close to four years at RBC, serving as Financial Controller for RBC Dominion Securities and as Chief Financial Officer for RBC Direct Investing, before joining Sprott.

He has been widely recognized: named a Fellow of CPA Ontario (FCPA, FCA) in 2019, recognized by Report on Business Magazine and The Globe and Mail as one of "Canada's 50 Best Executives" in 2022, and awarded the University of the West Indies Vice-Chancellor's Award in 2023. Beyond Sprott, he serves on the board of the UHN Foundation (one of North America's largest hospital foundations) and previously served as Vice-Chairman and Treasurer of Dixon Hall Neighbourhood Services (2016–2022).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • As CFO, Hibbert is a corporate finance and operations leader, not a deal-sourcing investor. Investment decisions at Sprott are made by its portfolio-management and merchant-banking teams, not by the CFO.
  • Sprott's firm-level focus is concentrated in precious metals and critical materials — physical bullion trusts and commodity funds, mining/critical-materials ETFs, actively managed natural-resource equities, and private equity/debt strategies.
  • Capital deployed by Sprott into operating companies flows through its merchant banking and resource lending activities, partnering with natural-resource (mining, energy-transition materials) companies to meet their capital needs — not early-stage technology or seed-stage venture investing.

Notable Investments

  • Sprott Physical Gold Trust (PHYS) — closed-end physical gold bullion trust.
  • Sprott Physical Silver Trust (PSLV) — physical silver bullion trust.
  • Sprott Physical Gold and Silver Trust (CEF) — combined bullion trust.
  • Sprott Uranium Miners ETF (URNM) / Sprott Physical Uranium Trust (U.UN) — vehicles giving exposure to uranium and the nuclear-fuel cycle.
  • Sprott mining and critical-materials ETFs and Sprott private resource lending/merchant banking strategies financing natural-resource companies.
