Background
Kevin Keough is a career private-equity operating executive with more than 30 years of experience spanning portfolio management, public-company senior leadership, and top-tier management consulting. He began his career as an engineer officer in the U.S. Army after graduating with honors from the United States Military Academy at West Point (B.S., Engineering Mechanics), and he later earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Early in his professional life he became a partner at McKinsey & Company, where he built and managed senior client relationships in the firm's North American energy practice for roughly a decade.
Keough was then recruited into the management team at FirstEnergy Corp., a publicly traded electric utility, where he held a series of senior leadership roles including President of the Ohio Edison Company. From 2006 to September 2017 he served as Managing Director and Global Head of Portfolio Management for Arcapita Investment Management (and its predecessor, Arcapita Inc.), based in Atlanta, where he held board-level oversight responsibilities across several dozen portfolio companies during a nearly 12-year tenure.
After Arcapita, Keough moved to Investcorp's North American Private Equity Group in New York (2017–2020) as Managing Director and Head of Post-Acquisition, overseeing value creation across a portfolio of roughly 10–12 middle-market companies. Following a brief period as an independent management consultant, he joined Atlanta-based Navigation Capital Partners in March 2021 as Managing Director of Operations, responsible for the firm's growing portfolio of SPAC (Special Purpose Acquisition Company) investments.
Most recently, Keough took an operating role at one of those SPAC-related investments, American Virtual Cloud Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AVCT), a cloud-communications company. He served as its President (from July 2021), then Chief Transformation Officer (April/May 2022), and was appointed Chief Executive Officer effective August 22–25, 2022, at which point the company launched a strategic-alternatives review that could lead to a sale of the company or select assets.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Operates as a portfolio-management / post-acquisition value-creation specialist rather than a deal-sourcing check-writer — his stated remit at Arcapita and Investcorp was board-level oversight and operational improvement of already-acquired companies.
- Focus is on established middle-market companies (buyout-stage), not early-stage/seed ventures — directly contrary to the "angel / seed" descriptor in the stub record.
- Deep domain strength in energy and utilities (McKinsey energy practice; FirstEnergy/Ohio Edison) and, more recently, cloud communications and technology (AVCT's Kandy platform).
- At Navigation Capital he concentrated on the operational guidance of management teams through the SPAC process. In his own words on joining: *"I'm honored to contribute to a team of this caliber. Navigation demonstrates the depth needed to guide management teams through the SPAC process."*
- Value-add is grounded in operating experience — engineering, military leadership, consulting, and running a public utility — making him a hands-on operator/board member rather than a passive financial investor.
Notable Investments
- American Virtual Cloud Technologies (AVCT, Nasdaq: AVCT) — cloud-communications company built around the Kandy platform; Keough served as President, then Chief Transformation Officer, then CEO (2021–2022), and led its strategic-alternatives/sale review.
- Arcapita portfolio companies (2006–2017) — held board-level oversight across several dozen of Arcapita's global buyout portfolio companies as Global Head of Portfolio Management (individual deals are not publicly attributed to him by name).
- Investcorp North American PE portfolio (2017–2020) — post-acquisition oversight of ~10–12 middle-market companies as Head of Post-Acquisition.
- Navigation Capital Partners SPAC investments (2021– ) — operational oversight of the firm's SPAC portfolio.
