Background

Ki Chun Shin (born 1962) is a first-generation Korean venture capitalist and one of the longest-tenured figures in the country's VC industry. He graduated from Daejeon High School and earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree in business administration from Seoul National University. He qualified as a certified public accountant and worked at Samil Accounting Corporation (the PwC member firm in Korea) before joining Atinum Investment — then operating in the lineage of Han-Mi Venture Capital — in 1989 as an investment examination officer. His tenure at the firm now spans roughly 36 years, an unusually long run in an industry where professionals frequently move between houses.

Shin was appointed Representative Director (CEO) in 2000 and has since overseen the firm's overall management and investment operations, serving as Vice Chairman. For much of that period he was the firm's sole representative director. Much of his career was shaped as the trusted senior executive under founder and Chairman Lee Min-ju, and he is widely regarded as the stable "anchor" of the house.

In early 2026 Atinum transitioned from a two-person leadership structure (Shin and Lee Seung-yong) to a three-person co-CEO / independent-representative system adding Doo Jin Maeng (Maeng Du-jin). Under this arrangement Shin continues to oversee overall corporate management. His signature achievement is the 2023-vintage Atinum Growth Investment Fund, which raised ₩860 billion — the largest venture fund ever assembled in South Korea, anchored by domestic institutions including the National Pension Service.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Backs companies across their entire lifecycle — identifying and funding early-stage startups, then providing follow-on capital at key growth stages.
  • Concentrates on deep-tech (AI, semiconductors, robotics, mobility) alongside service and software businesses; also active in healthcare/bio, consumer platforms, and gaming/content.
  • Operates at megafund scale, reflecting Shin's push toward large, institutionally-backed growth funds (the ₩860bn 2023 fund) — signaling appetite for meaningful, multi-round positions rather than one-off small checks.
  • Track record oriented toward conviction plus patience: e.g., holding a 2014 Woowa Brothers position into a >26x return by 2021.
  • As a CPA by training, brings a financial-discipline lens to underwriting.

Notable Investments

  • Woowa Brothers (Baemin) — operator of Korea's largest food-delivery app; Atinum invested in 2014 and recouped over ₩62.5bn on a partial exit in 2021, more than a 26-fold return.
  • Dunamu — operator of the Upbit crypto exchange; listed as one of Atinum's most recent portfolio exits (reported November 2025).
  • Ridi (RIDI) — digital content/webtoon platform; a portfolio unicorn.
  • Kakao Games — gaming company among Atinum's notable exits.
  • Zigbang — proptech / real-estate platform.
  • Watcha — streaming/content platform.
  • Openedges Technology, BOS Semiconductors, BCnC — semiconductor portfolio.
  • Morai, Rideflux, Mobiltech — autonomous-driving / mobility.
  • Standigm, Innovo Therapeutics, KoBioLabs — healthcare and biotech.
  • Huuuge Games, Kong Studios — gaming/media.
  • Firm-level track record cited across aggregators: multiple unicorns plus 60+ IPOs and roughly a dozen acquisitions.
