Background
Klaus Holse is one of Denmark's most senior technology executives, best known for leading SimCorp A/S — the Copenhagen-listed investment-management software provider — as CEO from September 2012 until stepping down in September 2021 after nine years. He remained on SimCorp's executive management board through the end of 2021 and served as a senior advisor into the second quarter of 2022, handing the CEO role to Christian Kromann. He holds a Master of Computer Science from the University of Copenhagen.
Before SimCorp, Holse spent more than 11 years at Microsoft, rising to Corporate Vice President and President of Western Europe (a Corporate VP appointment made in 2009). Earlier in his career he was a Senior Vice President at Oracle Corporation and held CEO roles at Danish technology companies. This combination of large-cap enterprise-software leadership (Oracle, Microsoft) and running a public FinTech vendor (SimCorp) underpins the sectors he now backs and advises.
Since leaving SimCorp's day-to-day, Holse has built an unusually broad portfolio of board chairmanships and directorships, largely centered on Nordic B2B software. He has served as Chairman of open-banking firm Tink AB (which he joined as chairman in 2020, ahead of its acquisition by Visa), CRM platform SuperOffice, vertical-software company EG A/S, and payroll firm Zenegy A/S. In February 2022 he was appointed Chairperson of two Nordic Capital portfolio companies — live-video-production software leader Vizrt Group and economic-data intelligence firm Macrobond Financial. He also sits on the boards of GN Store Nord (as Deputy Chair), defense/aerospace manufacturer Terma, and sports-media company Better Collective, and in 2022 he became Chairman (formand) of the Confederation of Danish Industry (Dansk Industri, DI), one of the country's most influential business organizations.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests personal money as an angel into early-stage companies, typically in exchange for equity, focused on enterprise applications and FinTech — the two domains he ran operationally at Oracle, Microsoft, and SimCorp.
- Nordic / Danish-centric: his tracked angel investments have all been in Denmark, reflecting a hands-on, network-driven approach.
- Gravitates toward B2B / vertical SaaS and financial software rather than consumer plays — the same profile as the many boards he chairs (SimCorp, SuperOffice, EG, Macrobond, Tink, Zenegy).
- Brings operator credibility and go-to-market scale experience (he ran Microsoft's Western Europe business and scaled a public software company), so his value-add is strongest for companies at the point of professionalizing sales, governance, and international expansion.
Notable Investments
- Cardlay — Danish FinTech offering white-label corporate card and expense solutions; participated around its ~$5.6M Series A (Dec 2017). Listed by Tracxn as one of his exits (acquisition).
- Lenus (Lenus eHealth) — enterprise/health-coaching software platform; angel participation around a ~$2.0M seed round (Jul 2020).
- Impero — Copenhagen-based tax/compliance-management SaaS; participation in a post-IPO round (~$975K, Nov 2022) following Impero's 2021 listing on Nasdaq First North.
- Portchain — maritime/shipping scheduling software; Holse has publicly championed the team on LinkedIn, indicating advisory/portfolio engagement (Oct 2024).
