Background
Klaus Siegers (born 1960) is Chairman of the Management Board of Weberbank Actiengesellschaft, Berlin's oldest private bank (founded 1949), a post he has held since September 2010. He joined the bank in 2005 when it came under WestLB ownership, initially recruited to lead its Düsseldorf operations, and in the three years before becoming CEO he was responsible for private-client business, asset management, and institutional clients. Today his mandate spans strategy, personnel, portfolio management, and the advisory relationship with institutional clients.
Before Weberbank, Siegers built a career in private banking and capital-markets business that took him through Düsseldorf, Munich, London, Luxembourg, and Frankfurt. Raised in North Rhine-Westphalia as the youngest of four brothers in a family-run business household (his father was a master butcher), he relocated to Berlin in 2005, where he now lives with his family.
As CEO he is the bank's public face on markets and policy, publishing regular board commentary ("Kommentar des Vorstandes") on capital markets, wealth management, Berlin's economy, and sustainable investing. Weberbank has been a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Investment since 2008 and runs ESG mandates that extend beyond carbon to issues such as equal pay and labor practices. Beyond banking, Siegers has served on the board of the support circle (Förderkreis) of the Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2017 and as its treasurer since 2019.
It is worth flagging for accuracy: Siegers is a career banker and bank CEO, not a prolific solo startup angel. His and Weberbank's connection to the angel ecosystem runs primarily through the bank's multi-family office (led by Mirko Nagel) and its partnership with the Business Angels Club Berlin-Brandenburg — the channels most relevant to a founder trying to reach capital via him.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Angel access is institutional, not personal. Weberbank positions itself as a bridge between its (often entrepreneurial) wealth clients and the startup scene, rather than Siegers writing branded personal checks. He frames it as partnership: *"Wir wollen nicht nur auf der Seitenlinie stehen und kritisieren. Aus der Verbindung zu unseren Kund*innen heraus gehört das Verfolgen gemeinsamer Interessen einfach dazu."* ("We don't just want to stand on the sidelines and criticize — pursuing shared interests grows naturally out of our relationships with our clients.")
- Founder-meets-capital events. The bank hosts formats such as the "Disruptional Dinner" and a "garage pitch," where digital entrepreneurs present business models to an audience of potential capital providers, business angels, and marketing partners — pitched as mutually beneficial for clients and founders.
- Business Angels Club Berlin-Brandenburg (BACB). Weberbank is a sponsor and cooperation partner of the BACB and backs its annual "Business Angel of the Year" award; the club's ~120+ angels invest in roughly 30 early-stage startups per year and mobilize €3M+ annually.
- Wealth-preservation mindset. Siegers' core lens is long-term wealth stewardship, succession, and responsible (ESG) investing for private and institutional clients — a conservative, relationship-first posture rather than high-velocity venture betting.
Notable Investments
- No individually attributed startup investments by Klaus Siegers are documented in public sources. His startup exposure is indirect, via Weberbank's family-office clientele and its BACB partnership.
- Weberbank × BACB (ongoing): Sponsor and cooperation partner of the Business Angels Club Berlin-Brandenburg; hosts and supports the annual "BACB Business Angel of the Year" award (2023 ceremony held at the Weberbank villa). In 2024 the BACB brokered €2.3M+ across 21 Berlin startups (nearly 130 individual investments in 29 startups Germany-wide) — the pipeline Weberbank plugs its clients into.
