Background
Dr. Kola Olofinboba is a Managing Partner at Fairview Capital Partners, a West Hartford, Connecticut–based investment firm founded in 1994 that is one of the largest Black-owned investment management firms in the United States, with more than $10 billion managed since inception. At Fairview he is involved in a broad set of investment, business development, and governance activities, and serves on the advisory boards of several private equity partnerships within Fairview's fund portfolios. He is one of the firm's senior owners alongside co-founders JoAnn Price and Laurence "Larry" Morse and fellow Managing Partners Alan Mattamana and Aakar Vachhani.
His path to investing is unusual. Dr. Olofinboba earned his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and practiced as a board-certified internist/hospitalist and assistant professor at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, CT. He then earned an MBA in Financial Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management, where he was a Robert Toigo Fellow. Before joining Fairview, he was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company, serving U.S. and global clients in healthcare and private equity.
Fairview operates as a fund-of-funds and co-investment manager for institutional investors — public and corporate pension funds, endowments, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals — providing access across venture capital, diverse and emerging managers, and co-investments. In April 2024, New York Life acquired a minority ownership stake in the firm (having committed $200 million to Fairview since 2021 as part of an initiative to help bridge the racial wealth gap), an inflection point intended to accelerate the firm's growth.
Beyond investing, Dr. Olofinboba is active in civic and corporate governance. He has served on boards including Hartford HealthCare, Liberty Bank, Connecticut Children's Medical Center, the Connecticut Science Center, the National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC), and Simsbury Bank & Trust Company.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests institutional capital as a limited partner into top-tier venture capital and private equity funds, and selectively co-invests at the company level — not direct seed/angel investing.
- Distinctive, decades-long focus on diverse, women-, and minority-owned and emerging fund managers; Fairview positions itself as a premier access point to this segment of private markets.
- Strategy spans the private-markets spectrum: venture expansions, buyouts, and later-stage investments.
- Personal interest and public commentary concentrated in healthcare and, increasingly, agentic AI and its impact on healthcare.
- Evaluates managers on institutional-quality criteria (team, track record, differentiation) consistent with a fiduciary fund-of-funds approach serving pensions and endowments.
Notable Investments
- Diverse & emerging manager portfolio — Fairview is among the most prominent allocators to minority- and women-owned VC/PE funds; in 2025 Dr. Olofinboba highlighted that, for the first time, there are now more than 1,000 such firms in the U.S.
- Co-investment program — direct company-level co-investments alongside Fairview's fund managers (specific company names are not publicly itemized).
- CAM Private Equity joint venture — Fairview launched a joint venture with CAM Private Equity to broaden its platform.
- *Note:* As a fund-of-funds, Fairview's "investments" are primarily commitments to underlying funds rather than named startups; the firm does not publicly disclose a startup-level portfolio in the way an angel or direct VC would.
