Background

Konrad Grieger is a Managing Director at Cobepa, an independent, privately held investment company with offices in Brussels, New York, and Munich. Cobepa describes itself as a private-equity investor with a permanent capital base and a flexible investment horizon, focused on established companies in Europe and the United States.

Grieger joined Cobepa in 2017. Cobepa’s team page says he is a member of both the Investment Committee and Investment Team, and that he is a non-executive director of Ascentiel, Gerflor, and HG International. Cobepa announced on 6 January 2025 that Grieger had been promoted to Managing Director.

Before Cobepa, Grieger worked for almost three years in the Paris office of BC Partners, where he focused mainly on investment opportunities in the French market. Earlier, he spent more than two years as a consultant at McKinsey & Company in Paris, working on strategy assignments with a focus on private-equity clients. His earlier internships included Morgan Stanley and Cinven.

Grieger holds a Master’s Degree in Management from ESCP Europe. His public LinkedIn profile lists ESCP Europe education from 2008 to 2012 and shows him based in Belgium.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Cobepa’s strategy is not seed or angel investing; it is private equity in established companies with proven business models.
  • Cobepa states: “We invest between €100m and €400m per transaction in companies with an established and proven business model, via equity or quasi-equity instruments.”
  • The firm targets majority or strong minority positions where it can influence strategy and support value creation.
  • Cobepa is sector-flexible, saying it focuses on company merits and prospects across sectors, as long as investments respect its ESG policy.
  • The geographic mandate is Europe and the United States, with sourcing focused on companies headquartered in those regions.
  • Cobepa describes itself as a “hands-with” investor: not involved in day-to-day management, but closely engaged with management on the business plan, M&A, market intelligence, growth projects, and strategic priorities.
  • Cobepa’s investment criteria emphasize favorable market dynamics, sustainable competitive leadership, strong management and governance, attractive margins and cash conversion, tangible growth vectors, and multiple exit options.
