Kostas Mallios

Kostas Mallios is a Seattle-based technology executive and seed-stage investor with more than two decades of C-level experience. He spent roughly 15 years at Microsoft as an executive and partner, holding General Manager and Partner roles across product development, M&A, marketing, strategy, business development, and R&D. He later served as Vice President at Intellectual Ventures (intven.com), where he built technology-driven businesses through invention and strategic partnerships, focusing on challenges such as elder healthcare, energy efficiency, and food safety.

His operating résumé spans several growth and turnaround roles: Chief Business Officer & Chief Operating Officer at uBeam (wireless power), where he helped align product, engineering and go-to-market and supported the company's Series B; business and strategy leader at INNOETICS (text-to-speech), which he helped sell to Samsung; and CEO & Board Director at Clipper Vacations. Earlier in his career he served as Director of the Small Business Development Center at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Today he is Corporate Vice President & General Manager of Applied AI at Applied Materials, working to accelerate AI adoption across cloud and edge by bridging systems and materials/silicon design.

On the investing side, Mallios co-founded the PJ Tech Catalyst Fund in 2012 — during Greece's economic crisis — a seed venture fund created to back Greek entrepreneurs and ICT startups. The €15M fund, backed by the European Investment Fund and Piraeus Bank, deployed seed capital of up to €750K per company and made 21 investments plus roughly 40 follow-on financings. He works alongside an investment team including Nikos Antoniou, Vasilis Theoharakis, Christos Tsangos, and Elena Gyftea.

Mallios holds an MBA in Technology Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a B.S. in Marketing Management from Siena College, and has completed an executive program in Exponential Innovation at Singularity University and executive coaching coursework at UC Berkeley. He has written as a contributor for HuffPost, where he describes believing "in the power of ideas and technology and an individual's ability to make a difference."
