Background

Dr. Krischan von Moeller is a co-founder and senior/managing partner of Paragon Partners, a Munich-based private equity firm he established in 2004 together with Edin Hadzic. He is one of three equal partners in the owner-managed firm (alongside Marco Attolini and Edin Hadzic), each holding roughly one-third of the shares and jointly forming its management. As of early 2026 he is 61 years old, placing his birth around 1964–1965.

He holds a Diploma in Industrial Engineering and Business Administration from the Technical University of Darmstadt and a doctorate in economics associated with TU Darmstadt and Harvard University. He began his career at The Boston Consulting Group (1993–1999), working in the firm's Munich, London and Australasian offices. From 1999 to 2002 he headed the Corporate Development department at Verlagsgruppe Holtzbrinck (Holtzbrinck Publishing Group), overseeing strategy, operational improvement programs and M&A. Before founding Paragon he was involved with BZV Partners, a family-owned investment company focused on restructuring a portfolio of mid-sized companies.

At Paragon, von Moeller has helped build a firm that today manages a portfolio of roughly a dozen companies with combined sales of about €1.3 billion and around 6,000 employees. The firm pursues majority acquisitions of established DACH-region Mittelstand businesses, often in transformation or special-situation contexts, and holds them for a five-to-seven-year value-creation horizon.

Beyond Paragon, von Moeller holds board roles reflecting his media-industry roots. In February 2026 he assumed the chairmanship of the supervisory board of Rheinische Post Mediengruppe, succeeding Friedrich Joussen. He has also served on the management/supervisory bodies of Paragon portfolio companies such as Novagraaf.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests through Paragon's institutional buyout funds — not as a personal seed-stage angel — targeting majority stakes in established mid-sized DACH companies.
  • Focus on companies with a proven, established business model rather than early-stage/venture bets; Paragon describes its targets as "established mid-sized companies."
  • Sector-agnostic / generalist: industrials, industrial services, consumer and education services, IP and business services.
  • Value-creation via transformation: operational improvement, buy-and-build, and restructuring/special situations, drawing on von Moeller's BCG and corporate-development background; typical 5–7 year hold.
  • Geography: Germany, Austria, Switzerland.

Notable Investments

  • Schülerhilfe — German market leader in private tutoring; acquired by Paragon in 2009.
  • Castolin Eutectic — industrial services / wear-protection and welding solutions provider; acquired during the COVID-19 period.
  • Novagraaf — European intellectual-property services firm (patents, trademarks, designs); Paragon investment, with von Moeller on its leadership/board.
