Krzysztof Kowalczyk

Krzysztof "Chris" Kowalczyk is a Warsaw-based strategy consultant, manager and early-stage investor who founded HardGamma Ventures in 2011, one of Poland's first seed/early-stage technology funds. Before turning to venture investing, he built a corporate and consulting career at McKinsey & Company, Lycos Europe and Procter & Gamble (in the USA and UK). He is a graduate of the Warsaw School of Economics, holds a CEMS Master in International Management (Community of European Management Schools), was a DAAD scholar, and later completed Singularity University's Exponential Technologies program.

At HardGamma he became well known in the early European startup scene. He launched GammaRebels, described as Poland's first YC/TechStars-style startup accelerator, and mentored at a number of European programs including Seedcamp, Springboard and IPO48. In 2011 The Europas recognized him and his firms across three categories — highly commended for Best VC Partner, Best VC of the Year (HardGamma) and Best European Startup Accelerator (GammaRebels). His earliest and most notable angel bet was Codility, which he backed before it won Seedcamp (2009) and a TechCrunch Europas award (2010) and became profitable.

In the years since, Kowalczyk has increasingly focused on electromobility, automotive and disruptive/exponential technologies. He served as New Business Director at Grupa LOTOS S.A. and as CEO of ElectroMobility Poland, the state-backed initiative to build a Polish electric car. He has also been a Partner at the Leonarto VC fund and a Board Advisor at Born Electric (electric and autonomous vehicle solutions). He sits on the FIA's Electric and New Energy Championships Commission and has advised the president of the Polish Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (PZM) on electromobility since 2019.

• Invests at pre-seed and seed (extending into seed-plus/Series A) in technology startups that already have a product or service and initial customer or revenue traction — his stated target is companies "ready for significant growth and subsequent funding rounds."
• Sector emphasis on software, hardware, IoT and mobile, with a broad tech surface spanning games, AR/VR, payments, marketing tech, developer tools, cloud infrastructure, biotech and health IT.
• Geographically anchored in Poland and CEE, with an appetite to help local startups reach international markets (UK/US) — GammaRebels was explicitly built to give Central European founders TechStars-style acceleration.
• Runs a hands-on, accelerator-driven model: beyond capital, HardGamma provides help with business planning, marketing and product positioning, and Kowalczyk personally mentors founders.
• Operates a "fully privately-owned fund" with independent decision-making, and has also deployed capital as an LP/co-investor into other accelerators (Springboard London, Springboard IoT, Techstars London).
