Background
Kuljeev Singh is a Toronto-based operator, venture investor, and restaurateur, best known as the Founder & CEO of ResQ, a SaaS-enabled marketplace that helps restaurants manage back-of-house repairs and maintenance. He earned a Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours), in Mathematics and Economics, from the University of Waterloo (2005–2009).
Before founding ResQ, Singh spent roughly seven years in venture capital and private equity. He was one of the founding members of iGan Partners (approximately 2010–2018), where he helped build the firm into one of Canada's fast-growing early-stage funds, investing in and helping scale SaaS and marketplace companies, and also served as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence there. Earlier in his career he worked in private equity, including a role at High Park Capital Partners.
Singh's move into restaurant technology grew out of hands-on operating experience. He is the owner of Kanga Foods / Kanga Pies, a chain of Australian-style meat-pie quick-serve restaurants in Toronto (since ~2017). Watching tens of thousands of dollars evaporate from failing equipment and unreliable contractors at the pie shop convinced him that restaurants had rich front-of-house software but "no technology to support the back of the house" — the insight that became ResQ.
ResQ, founded around 2014–2018 and formally led by Singh as CEO, now serves thousands of restaurant groups (including brands like KFC, Taco Bell, and Tim Hortons) and has raised roughly $46–48M CAD across seed and Series A rounds from investors such as Tiger Global, Canvas Ventures, Inovia Capital, Homebrew, and Golden Ventures. As both a former VC and a scaled founder, Singh invests as an angel alongside his operating role.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as an individual angel at the seed/early stage, drawing on both his iGan venture background and his experience scaling ResQ.
- Focus areas mirror his own expertise: SaaS, online/B2B marketplaces, food-service and restaurant technology, logistics, and fintech.
- Gravitates toward founders solving real operational pain in overlooked, non-glamorous industries — the "back of the house" thesis that underpins ResQ: large, underserved markets with legacy, offline workflows ripe for software + marketplace models.
- Values operator-led companies where technology sits atop a real-world service/marketplace layer (the model he built at ResQ and backed at ChefHero).
Notable Investments
- ChefHero — Angel investment in a restaurant-supply/procurement marketplace (restaurant tech).
- Swyft / ShipSwyft — Logistics and shipping software; participated at the seed stage.
- Finaeo — Fintech / financial software platform for the insurance distribution space.
- ResQ — Founder and CEO (his primary venture, not a passive investment), which he built after backing ChefHero in the same sector.
