Background

Kyle Brown is the Chief Executive Officer of Trinity Capital Inc. (Nasdaq: TRIN), a role he has held since January 1, 2024. He has served as the firm's President, Chief Investment Officer, and a member of the Board of Directors since 2019. Brown joined Trinity in 2015, was an original member of its Investment Committee, and served as a Managing Partner of Trinity's predecessor funds. He brings roughly 30 years of experience in venture equity and venture debt, including 15-plus years in fund management and financial services prior to Trinity.

Before Trinity, Brown founded and was Managing Partner of Sharp Equity, LLC, and President of Brown Equity, LLC — vehicles that provided equity and bridge-debt financing in real estate and that collectively deployed more than $250 million in capital across multiple private offerings. Earlier in his career he was a General Partner at Point Financial Capital Partners (a venture leasing fund), President and CFO of InvestLinc Financial Services (an early-stage private equity and consulting firm), and a Partner at Cornerstone Equity Partners (a private equity fund).

Brown holds a B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing from McNeese State University. He is a member of the Small Business Investor Alliance's Western Regional Committee and has served on the boards of LeadershipX and the Camelback Society. Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he is an LSU fan and is married with five children.

Under Brown's leadership, Trinity has scaled into an international alternative asset manager with more than $5.7 billion in fundings across five business verticals, and the firm recorded a milestone $1.2 billion of fundings in 2024.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Provides non-dilutive growth capital — term loans and equipment financing — to growth-stage, venture-backed companies and businesses with institutional equity backing, rather than writing equity angel/seed checks.
  • Invests across five verticals: tech lending, equipment financing, healthcare & life sciences, asset-based lending, and sponsor finance.
  • Targets companies that already have institutional equity investors and a clear path to scale; the structure (debt + warrants) lets founders extend runway without giving up large equity stakes.
  • Operates as a publicly traded BDC, so deployment is continuous and at scale — $1.6 billion of new commitments originated in 2024 alone.
  • Increasingly building co-investment and joint-venture structures (e.g., the 2026 lower-middle-market senior-secured JV with Capital Southwest) to expand lending capacity.
