Background
Lana Ghanem is the founder and Managing Director of Hikma Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Hikma Pharmaceuticals, which she established in 2015. Under her leadership the fund has grown into one of the more recognized corporate VCs in digital health, backing roughly 15–20 portfolio companies globally and recording several acquisitions among them. Hikma Ventures invests in digital health and life-sciences companies that can enhance Hikma's value, reputation, and market intelligence, giving founders access to Hikma's global generics and operational platform.
Ghanem joined Hikma Pharmaceuticals in 2012 as Assistant to the CEO and Director of Corporate Strategy & Development, where she ran strategic initiatives spanning strategy, M&A, operations, and finance before spinning up the venture arm. Prior to Hikma, she worked as a Financial Analyst in the Mergers & Acquisitions department at Dresdner Kleinwort investment bank in London, advising clients on cross-industry transactions.
She holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University. Her work building Hikma Ventures was significant enough to become the subject of a Harvard Business School case study, "Lana Ghanem: Pushing the Boundaries of Health Care Through Venture Capital."
Beyond the fund, Ghanem sits on the boards of Bank Al Etihad, Siniora Food Industries PLC, and the Arab Palestinian Investment Company (APIC), and she leads Hikma's Innovation & Leadership Advisory Board (ILAB), a group of younger employees focused on keeping Hikma at the frontier of innovation.

- Seeks to back "disruptive technologies and meaningful companies, with a diverse leadership team, that can make a real difference in the world" — diversity of leadership is an explicit selection criterion.
- Core focus areas: drug delivery, digital therapeutics, clinical-trial innovation, respiratory, CNS, oncology, and select autoimmune/chronic conditions (Type II diabetes, hypertension), plus solutions addressing overdose and substance abuse.
- Check size up to ~$5M per round; historically concentrated in U.S.-based companies (with select Canadian and global deals), often at Series A/B though the firm has participated earlier.
- Strategic-fit lens: prioritizes companies that can enhance Hikma's value proposition, reputation, and market intelligence, and that benefit from Hikma's global manufacturing, regulatory, and commercial footprint.
