Background
Lance Maerov is one of the most experienced dealmakers in the advertising, media, and marketing-services industry. For roughly two decades he served as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development at WPP, the world's largest advertising and marketing-services holding company, where he led mergers, acquisitions, and investment activity across North America and Latin America. During that tenure he completed many of WPP's most strategic acquisitions and investments and sat on more than 50 boards across the media, technology, and marketing-services sectors. He holds an MBA from Columbia University and a BA from the University of Vermont.
In 2023 Maerov founded Dinmont Ridge, an advisory firm focused on serving private equity and strategic investors. In 2024 he joined Canaccord Genuity as a Managing Director in its Technology, Media, Marketing & Information Services (TMMIS) group within the US Investment Banking team; the hire was announced on October 29, 2024, and was positioned as an expansion of Canaccord's marketing-services and technology advisory practice at a time of AI-driven and digital convergence across the industry.
Maerov is also publicly known for his role on the board of The Weinstein Company (TWC), where he sat as a director/observer representing WPP's investment interest from the company's 2005 launch. He became one of Harvey Weinstein's principal antagonists on the board, negotiated the specifics of Weinstein's 2015 employment contract, and resigned in 2018 amid TWC's collapse and bankruptcy sale. He was called as the prosecution's first witness in the 2020 criminal trial of Harvey Weinstein, testifying that Weinstein had "specifically threatened personal litigation" against him.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests and advises across advertising & marketing services, technology services, adtech/martech, film & TV production, music, and sports — the intersection of media and technology.
- Operates at the growth, strategic-minority, and M&A end of the spectrum (corporate development / strategic investing), rather than seed-stage angel checks.
- At Canaccord, focus is on how AI and digital convergence are reshaping marketing-services and technology businesses — advising owners and PE sponsors on sales, acquisitions, and capital.
- Deep board-level operating perspective (50+ boards) informs an "operator-investor" lens: value creation, governance, and eventual strategic exit to a larger holding company or platform.
