Background
Lane Faison is the founder and managing partner of Copeley Capital Management, a Charlotte, North Carolina private equity firm he launched in 2003. Copeley invests a dedicated pool of capital in control positions in lower-middle-market businesses, focusing on privately owned, profitable companies rather than early-stage startups. The firm is best understood as a small-buyout / recapitalization investor, which is materially different from the "angel investor / seed round" label carried in the source stub.
Before founding Copeley, Faison was a Vice President (Principal) at Blue Point Capital Partners, where he executed and monitored control investments in middle-market businesses across a range of industries — including building products, chemical distribution, facility services, heavy-duty truck accessories, and healthcare services / revenue-cycle management. That operating and deal experience maps closely onto the sectors Copeley has pursued since.
Faison earned an M.B.A. from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia (1997–1999) and a B.A. from Rollins College. In addition to leading Copeley, he has chaired or served on the boards of the firm's portfolio companies — including EMS Management & Consultants (EMS|MC), Champion ONE Technologies, and Badger Land Holdings — and has served as a director of SnapAV. He is also active in the Charlotte community, serving on the boards of the education nonprofit Read Charlotte and the Skeebo Foundation.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Buys control of established, profitable companies, not seed-stage startups — targets roughly $1.5M–$10M EBITDA and $5M–$50M enterprise values in the lower middle market.
- Sector emphasis on building products/materials, specialty and industrial manufacturing, value-added distribution, business services, healthcare services, waste & recycling, and consumer products & services.
- Hands-on value creation: in the EMS|MC deal, Copeley emphasized "strategic focus on technology innovation, outstanding service delivery and business development," and rolled equity forward as a continued partner after the sale — signaling a build-and-hold, operationally engaged approach.
- Founder/family liquidity and growth partner: fits owners of high-quality private businesses seeking a recapitalization, succession, or growth-capital partner rather than a minority venture check.
Notable Investments
- EMS Management & Consultants (EMS|MC) — Technology- and analytics-driven revenue-cycle management / claims processing for the EMS (ambulance) industry; Copeley exited to BV Investment Partners on December 1, 2021, calling it an investment that "exceeded our expectations." Faison chaired its board (EMSMC Holdings, Inc.).
- Champion ONE Technologies, LLC — Beachwood, Ohio provider of niche, proprietary branded fiber-optic components to carrier, enterprise, education, and reseller markets; Copeley acquired majority ownership (Faison chaired the board).
- OnSight Industries — Signage/site-services manufacturer; Copeley first invested in September 2018 and retained an equity interest in partnership with Carousel Capital on a later transaction.
- Leonard Buildings & Truck Accessories — Retailer/manufacturer of storage buildings and truck accessories (building products / consumer products).
- Badger Land Holdings, LLC — Portfolio holding chaired by Faison.
- Enveniam — Listed among Copeley's investments in aggregator databases.
