Background
Laurence Denihan is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Tenth Avenue Holdings (TAH), a privately held, diversified investment and operating holding company based in New York City. He co-founded the firm in 2008 with Joel Citron, pairing a longstanding friendship with a shared goal of building an entity focused on enduring, long-term value rather than short-term financial engineering. TAH describes itself as a permanent-capital vehicle — it does not "rent" businesses for a quick exit, and instead partners closely with founders and operators to own and grow companies over long horizons.
Denihan brings more than 30 years of experience across the real estate and hospitality industries as well as diversified operating businesses. Prior to founding Tenth Avenue Holdings, he was a partner and owner of Affinia Hospitality, where he served as Head of Finance and Business Development. His functional expertise spans finance, strategic planning, operations, and branding — a skill set he applies across TAH's operating portfolio.
He is active on the boards of TAH's holdings, serving as Chairman of the Board of The Bronx Brewery and as a Director of Tenth Avenue Commerce, among several other portfolio companies. Denihan holds a BA in Business Administration from Iona College (Iona University) in New Rochelle, New York.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Permanent capital, long-term ownership: TAH invests its own balance sheet (reported permanent equity in excess of $500M) with no fund-life pressure — the stated philosophy is "we do not 'rent' businesses for short-term gain."
- Founder- and operator-centric: The firm emphasizes "long-term value creation that is rooted in relationships with founders and operators," positioning permanent capital as an ideal environment to build and grow a company.
- Established, cash-generating businesses: Public materials cite revenue thresholds (roughly $10M+ for existing verticals, $40M+ for new verticals), signaling a focus on proven companies rather than early-stage bets.
- Consumer-brand concentration: The portfolio clusters in consumer categories — food & beverage, pet, beauty/personal care, flowers & gifting, and household products.
- Buy-and-build / roll-up capability: TAH consolidates within verticals (e.g., building a floral & gifting platform through From You Flowers and its acquisition of FTD).
Notable Investments
- From You Flowers (fromyouflowers.com): TAH-affiliated online flowers and gifting retailer; in May 2023 it merged with/acquired FTD to create a large floral and gifting platform.
- FTD: Iconic floral network acquired via the From You Flowers combination (2023).
- The Bronx Brewery: Craft brewery where Denihan serves as Chairman; TAH announced an expansion partnership (2015).
