Background
Dr. Laurent Ganem is the Founder and CEO of G Square, a London-based private equity firm dedicated exclusively to healthcare. He holds a degree in Medicine from the University of Paris and an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York (Class of '86). He began his career at Baxter International, the global healthcare company, in Chicago.
In 1994, Ganem joined Apax Partners in Paris as a Partner, where he was responsible for building out the firm's healthcare investment practice. Over more than a decade there he invested across early-stage, growth, and buyout opportunities in both Europe and the US, generating numerous exits, including IPOs on European and US stock markets.
In 2007–2008 he left Apax to found G Square, which he established as Europe's first private equity firm focused exclusively on healthcare investments. He now has over 30 years of combined experience in healthcare private equity and venture capital. Under his leadership, G Square has grown to a team of roughly 32 professionals across 17 nationalities, has completed 25+ platform deals plus 350 portfolio add-ons, and manages multiple fund generations (GSC I–IV plus a continuation vehicle), with reported AUM in excess of €1–2 billion.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests exclusively in healthcare, organized around four segments: medical products, healthcare IT, healthcare services, and services to the pharma industry.
- Targets mid-market companies with growth potential, taking control/majority positions typical of private equity rather than minority seed checks.
- Firm positioning: *"Investing in the Future of Healthcare,"* with emphasis on *"Deep Specialized Sector Knowledge," "Entrepreneurial Support,"* and *"Innovation to Drive Growth."*
- "European Focus With a Global Reach" — concentrates on European platforms but supports international expansion and add-on acquisitions across geographies.
- Value-creation playbook leans heavily on buy-and-build (350 add-ons across the portfolio), pairing platform investments with bolt-on M&A.
