Background

Lisa S. Weil is an Associate at Beverly Capital, a Chicago-area family office founded in 2010 by Joseph P. Nolan, a longtime senior principal at private equity firm GTCR. Weil joined Beverly Capital in 2014 and is responsible for overseeing the firm's business operations and for special projects tied to its portfolio investments. Her role is operational and investor-relations-oriented rather than that of a deal-sourcing principal.

Before Beverly Capital, Weil spent 13 years at GTCR, the Chicago-based private equity firm, where she worked in investor relations, marketing, and CRM administration — overlapping with the GTCR careers of Beverly Capital's founders. Earlier in her career she worked in investment banking at Dean Witter Reynolds Inc. She holds a BA from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Beverly Capital itself is a long-term-oriented family office that has invested in more than 80 private companies with numerous realized exits, and is currently invested in roughly 40 private equity or debt funds. It also holds substantial direct real estate (farmland, apartments, and hotels) through its Juno Capital affiliate, and runs philanthropy through the Nolan Family Foundation, established in 2019. Given this structure, Weil functions inside a private, permanent-capital investment platform rather than a conventional fund with outside limited partners.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Firm strategy, not personal angel checks: Beverly Capital deploys family capital across private companies, PE/debt funds, real estate, and public equities with "a long-term perspective" — it is not a seed/angel writer despite the stub label.
  • Direct investments: Midwest / central-U.S. companies in healthcare, outsourced business services, and light manufacturing, typically with $1M–$10M EBITDA.
  • Co-investments: North American companies in the same sectors up to ~$20M EBITDA, made "alongside over 40 private equity funds and independent sponsors."
  • Structures: Control equity, recapitalizations, and platform build-ups (often partnering with sponsors on buy-and-build strategies).
  • Deep healthcare tilt: The founder led or co-led GTCR's healthcare investing, and the firm's marquee deals are healthcare-services platforms.

  • The Stepping Stones Group — School-based therapeutic/behavioral-health services provider; formed in 2014 via co-investment with Shore Capital Partners, simultaneously acquiring MyTherapyCompany and Cumberland Therapy Services.
