Lluaos Pareras

Luis Pareras is a physician-turned-investor who founded and runs Invivo Partners, a Barcelona-based venture capital firm specializing in early-stage healthcare and life-science companies. He holds a degree and PhD in Medicine from the University of Barcelona and trained as a specialist in Neurosurgery, and later earned a Global Executive MBA from IESE Business School. He combines a clinical/scientific background with more than a decade of professional investing experience.

Pareras co-founded Invivo alongside Albert Ferrer, launching their journey more than 12 years ago (circa 2012). Their first vehicle was the HealthEquity fund, followed by Invivo Ventures (which reached a first close of €40M and a total volume around €60M) and, announced in March 2024, a target €100M Invivo Ventures III fund focused on leading-edge life sciences. The funds have been backed by a majority of private investors plus institutional LPs including the European Investment Fund (EIF), Fond-ICO Global, the Institut Català de Finances, the Institut Valencià de Finances and Barcelona City Council. In September 2025 the firm unveiled plans for a further €100M fund (branded "InvivoAI" / Invivo Ventures AI) at the intersection of AI and science, welcoming Dr. Josep M. "Pep" Martorell (formerly of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center) as Partner.

Beyond investing, Pareras is a prolific author and educator in healthcare innovation and venture capital (including the book *Fast-Forward Thinking*), teaches at business schools such as IESE and Esade, and is deeply embedded in the Catalan/Spanish life-sciences ecosystem (Biocat, AseBio and related organizations). He has held board seats across a large portfolio of biotech companies, several of which have reached successful exits.

• Stage & checks: Backs companies from pre-seed/seed through Series A; initial tickets roughly €2–4M, reserving capital for follow-ons up to ~€10M per company as milestones are hit.
• Science first, not themes: "We don't invest in topics, we invest in good science: what matters most is that the solution is a good one."
• CEO/team quality is decisive: He describes quality leadership as "the most important element of a company," especially during uncertain times.
• Long-term conviction in biotech: "Stopping now would be a mistake, because science and biotechnology will play a huge role in society."
• AI as a requirement, not an add-on: On the new AI fund — "in the near future, no deeptech company will survive without integrating AI"; the fund is "the next evolution of our strategy — backing science-driven companies with AI."
• Sectors: Advanced therapies, synthetic biology, drug development, diagnostics/medtech, and AI-for-science/deeptech, primarily in Europe with a Spain focus.
