Background
Lorenzo Allevi is the Co-Founder and CEO (Managing Partner) of Oltre Impact, the firm founded in Milan in 2006 as Oltre Venture and widely credited as Italy's first impact-investing fund manager. He co-founded and has run the firm alongside President Luciano Balbo, and together they were among the pioneers who introduced the impact-investing concept to Italy and Europe (including through EVPA) in the early-to-mid 2000s. He brings more than 15 years of dedicated impact-investing experience and has been directly involved in the founding and growth of the main companies the firm has financed.
Before turning to impact investing, Allevi built a conventional finance career. He worked in investment banking and corporate finance at JP Morgan, at Mediocredito Lombardo, and in a financial-management role at the Rinascente retail group. This background in banking and corporate finance is the foundation he brings to structuring the firm's investments and steering its funds.
On education, Allevi holds a degree in Economics and Banking from the Università Cattolica (Catholic University) of Milan and an MBA from Bocconi University in Milan.
Under Allevi and Balbo, Oltre has grown to manage more than €120 million across three successive funds (Oltre I in 2006, Oltre II, and the larger Oltre III), completing 30-plus impact investments and a string of exits. The firm rebranded from "Oltre Venture" to "Oltre Impact" to reflect its focus on measurable social and environmental outcomes.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Core thesis, in the firm's own words: *"We invest in innovative companies capable to address the major social and environmental challenges"* — with impact built into the business model rather than bolted on, while still targeting competitive financial returns.
- Stages: Spans early-stage venture (seed/Series A) through growth equity and expansion-stage deals, and includes acquisitions of established companies with high development potential.
- Check sizes scale with fund generation: ~€0.5M average in Oltre I, ~€2M in Oltre II, and up to ~€5M in Oltre III.
- Sectors: Healthcare and health-tech, climate/energy, food and agtech, consumer, govtech, and social services — grouped under impact themes (Cleaner Planet, Healthier/Empowered People, Cleaner Society).
- Geography: Italy-centric, with selective expansion into other European markets.
- What makes them say yes: Companies serving fundamental human/social needs at scale where impact and commercial growth reinforce each other; the firm looks for demonstrable, measurable impact alongside a credible path to returns.
Notable Investments
- Cera — Europe's largest digital-first home-healthcare service; Oltre's standout portfolio company, which reportedly reached unicorn status in 2025, roughly two years after Oltre first invested.
- iRaiser — European leader in online fundraising technology for nonprofits; Oltre Venture reinvested alongside Impact Partners and Generis Capital, and the company was acquired (by Leetchi/S8 group) in November 2024 — an exit for the fund.
- SportClubby — Sports-facility booking / activity platform; portfolio company (held via Oltre Venture Fund II).
- Pharmercure — Italian home medicine-delivery startup connecting hundreds of pharmacies across 25+ Italian cities; raised growth capital (Reale Mutua later took a ~16% stake).
- Wonderful Italy and Erbert — hospitality/leisure and food-retail companies held through Oltre Venture Fund II.
- Across the three funds, Oltre reports on the order of 29–45 supported impact businesses with multiple exits (5+ acquisitions and, per some trackers, ~13 successful exits overall).
