Background

Luca Colciago is a Co-Founder and General Partner of Atempo Growth, a London-based, pan-European provider of venture/growth debt to high-growth technology companies. He co-founded the firm in 2021 alongside two fellow former Kreos Capital professionals, Matteo Avramov Giulivi and Jack Diamond. Colciago brings more than two decades of experience in venture and growth debt, and is credited with helping finance more than 100 European technology companies over his career.

Before Atempo, Colciago spent roughly two decades investing in growth-stage companies across the US and Europe at Kreos Capital, Noble Venture Finance (Noble Fund Managers), and GATX Ventures. He joined Kreos Capital — Europe's largest and leading dedicated provider of growth debt to companies with revenues up to €150 million — from Noble, where he had already been focused on venture debt, and was promoted to General Partner at Kreos in 2010.

Colciago holds an MBA from HEC School of Management (HEC Paris), which he completed in 1999–2000. His stated professional skill set spans mergers, private equity, financial modeling, corporate development, and growth capital.

At Atempo Growth, Colciago is part of a founding team that has collectively deployed capital to more than 100 companies across multiple sectors, including prior deals with money-transfer platform Currencycloud and Prague-based payments start-up Twisto. The firm has grown quickly: its debut fund reached a first close of €175 million (over $200 million) in January 2022, and its second fund, Atempo Growth II, has since scaled to €455 million in commitments, bringing the platform's assets under management to roughly €850 million.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Provides growth/venture debt — structured financing positioned as a flexible alternative or complement to equity, designed to fund scaling with minimal ownership dilution.
  • Backs high-growth, tech-enabled companies from Series A through pre-IPO/IPO, typically writing checks in the €3–10 million range.
  • Sector-agnostic, investing across "multiple jurisdictions and verticals" and financing a wide range of use cases (operational growth, runway extension, and acquisition financing).
  • Focused on the UK and continental Europe.
  • In his own words at launch: *"We are excited to announce the launch of our new fund Atempo Growth providing growth debt to European technology companies as they scale."*
  • Value proposition: capital that *"complements equity financing, supports operational growth, and finances acquisitions"* for companies that want to grow without giving up equity.
