Background
Ludovic Kessler is an Investment Director at IDIA Capital Investissement, the private-equity and growth-capital arm of the Crédit Agricole Group. He joined IDIA in November 2018 as an Investment Manager and was promoted to Investment Director in October 2020, where he covers mid-market private-equity transactions.
His career in finance began with roughly four years in transaction services at Advance Capital, followed by three years in private equity with the MidCap team at SIPAREX. In 2013 he moved into industry as a Distributor Development Manager at the US group Tupperware Brands, before returning to finance in 2016 with the private-equity team of Crédit Agricole Nord Est — his entry point into the Crédit Agricole ecosystem that led him to IDIA.
Kessler is a graduate of NEOMA Business School and holds a specialised master's degree in Entrepreneurship from EM Lyon Business School. At IDIA he has been part of the deal teams behind several notable Crédit Agricole-backed investments, including EUCLYDE Data Centers and the Alive group.
IDIA Capital Investissement itself has more than 30 years of history as an investor, with particularly deep expertise in agriculture, agri-food, wine and energy-transition companies (around fifty companies in its agri-agro portfolio), while also running a broader sector-agnostic Small & Midcap strategy.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as a minority or majority partner in established, cash-generative SMEs and mid-cap companies — this is growth/development capital and buyout work, not seed or angel investing.
- Check sizes of roughly €1M–€50M per deal, with long holding periods (commonly 5–10 years), reflecting a patient, "responsive and pragmatic" partner posture.
- Core sectors: Small & Midcap (generalist), Agri & Agrifood, Wine, and Energy Transition — leaning on Crédit Agricole's deep roots in agriculture and the food value chain.
- Frequently co-invests in syndicated pools alongside other Crédit Agricole regional vehicles (e.g. UNEXO, SOFIPACA) and outside partners such as Bpifrance, BNP Paribas Développement and IRD Invest.
- Backs companies through ownership transitions and expansion — family-succession situations, restructuring of shareholding, and funding of international/e-commerce growth (as seen in the Atlantic Nature deal).
Notable Investments
- EUCLYDE Data Centers — regional data-center operator; IDIA (with SOFIPACA) entered EUCLYDE's capital via Crédit Agricole to fund its development (announced March 2020). Kessler was among the IDIA directors on the deal.
- Alive group — event-solutions company (décor design/fabrication, furniture and plant rental, audiovisual equipment and connected/technical services, incl. Alive Technology); IDIA invested alongside Bpifrance and IRD Invest to support a new growth phase (announced November 2023). Kessler was part of the IDIA investment team.
- Atlantic Nature (Nat&Form brand) — Breton maker of eco-responsible, largely organic dietary supplements (900+ products); IDIA led a pool with UNEXO and BNP Paribas Développement (via CA Transitions) to back a family ownership transition and European/e-commerce expansion (announced October 2022).
