Background
Luke Armour graduated from Princeton University in 2013 (Class of '13) with a B.A. in International Relations, after attending The Lawrenceville School. Originally from Montclair, New Jersey, he grew up near the Princeton campus attending sporting events, and was drawn into venture capital after an early internship working for Ed Sim as an analyst at Boldstart Ventures in New York during his sophomore summer.
After college he moved to Los Angeles to work in software-focused growth equity, holding roles at K1 Investment Management and as an investment professional at Arrowroot Capital (2013–2015). While there, he repeatedly fielded outreach from fellow Princeton alumni seeking fundraising and career guidance, and observed that Princeton — unlike Stanford, Harvard, or MIT — lacked a dedicated alumni-centric venture fund or structured pathway to capital.
He launched Chaac Ventures in early 2015 (the firm was established in March 2015) as a first-time GP in his mid-20s, building it specifically to back startups with at least one Princeton-affiliated founder and to serve as the connective tissue of the Princeton tech community. The firm maintains a database linking Princeton alumni founders, investors, and advisors, and deliberately staffs interns and analysts from the Princeton network — what Armour describes as "a real family feel." Beyond Chaac, Armour has served in operating-adjacent investor roles including board/lead-investor positions at portfolio companies such as Vysioneer and Limitless Studios, an investor role at Meridian, and an advisor role at HomeWorks Trenton. The firm's co-founder, Andrew Armour, serves as Managing Partner / COO-CFO.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Princeton-first, alumni-centric: Invests almost exclusively in companies with at least one Princeton-affiliated founder, positioning Chaac as the "first call" partner for Princeton founders and filling the gap left by peer schools' alumni funds.
- Frontier ambition: Believes "Princeton founders tend to pursue overly-ambitious ideas in frontier areas like AI and cybersecurity that create a differentiated risk/return profile." In his words: *"We feel a higher-than-average number of these ventures will succeed (compared to traditional early-stage VC)."*
- Stage & checks: Participates from Seed through Series B+, writing checks roughly in the $100K–$1M range (commonly $250K–$500K). Chaac does not lead rounds — it co-invests alongside lead funds and angels.
- Sector breadth: Sector-agnostic in practice, with concentrations in AI/ML, cybersecurity, fintech, healthtech, media/sports, enterprise software, gaming/esports, and the creator economy.
- Network as value-add: Pitches the global Princeton alumni network — founders, operators, and investors — as the primary edge it brings to portfolio companies post-investment.
