Background
Maciej Hazubski is a co-founder and long-time chief executive of IQ Partners S.A., a Warsaw-based venture capital and investment firm established in 2005 and listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW) since October 2011. He is one of the firm's principal shareholders and has led its investment activity for nearly two decades, during which IQ Partners has completed more than 100 investment projects in early-stage technology companies. He was reappointed President of the Management Board for a further term in early 2021.
Hazubski graduated from the Warsaw School of Economics (Szkoła Główna Handlowa / SGH), earning a Master's degree in the mid-to-late 1990s. Before founding IQ Partners, he spent roughly 2000–2006 in managerial and executive roles at Polish technology and internet companies, including L2Mobile.com S.A., Linia 1, Infogis, and Soltan—experience that shaped the firm's focus on internet, mobile, and IT ventures.
Beyond IQ Partners, Hazubski has held numerous supervisory-board and executive positions across the firm's portfolio and affiliated companies, including Igoria Trade (a fintech that he helped take public on Poland's NewConnect market), Cube Group S.A., Langloo.com, Punkpirates, and others. He has advised on a broad range of investment, merger, and acquisition transactions, and is frequently cited in Polish business media (Parkiet, Bankier, MamStartup) as a commentator on the domestic VC and early-stage market.
In recent years, under Hazubski's leadership IQ Partners has signaled a strategic pivot—harvesting its legacy VC portfolio through exits while shifting the operating business toward producing VR games and XR applications, alongside continued activity in fintech, gaming, medtech, and marketing/IT services.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests at the seed / early stage in Polish technology start-ups, often the youngest, pre-revenue companies that need both capital and hands-on incubation.
- Historically deployed relatively small tickets, frequently blended with EU grant funding—IQ Partners raised roughly PLN 40M in EU financing and, in one representative year, launched ~15 new investments for about PLN 10M total (implying tickets on the order of several hundred thousand złoty per company).
- Sector emphasis on internet, media, mobile, e-commerce, IT, and fintech, expanding over time into medtech, marketing services, computer games, and VR/XR.
- Operates a portfolio-heavy, incubator model (vehicles such as InQbe and Ventures Hub), building a large stable of early companies and seeking exits via NewConnect/GPW listings or trade sales rather than concentrated late-stage bets.
- Frames investing cyclically—Hazubski has publicly emphasized that "investing always happens in economic cycles," reflecting a market-timing-aware, disciplined approach to entries and exits.
Notable Investments
- Prowly — PR/media-relations SaaS platform; among IQ Partners' best-known portfolio successes, later acquired by Semrush.
- Igoria Trade — Online currency-exchange/fintech company that Hazubski helped list on the NewConnect market; he served on its supervisory board.
- e-Kiosk — Digital press/newsstand platform, cited among the firm's notable holdings.
- Langloo.com — Language-learning start-up introduced by IQ Partners onto NewConnect.
- Legal Stream — Legal-tech venture the firm publicly described as "purely a financial investment."
- Concerto, M10, Proper Group — Additional portfolio companies among a batch of six that IQ Partners introduced to the NewConnect market.
- iFood — Listed among IQ Partners' portfolio/exits by aggregators (attribution via Tracxn; treat as unverified relative to the firm's own disclosures).
