Background
Christian Tury is Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of FINAD, an independent multi-family office founded in Zurich in 1976 by the Schwarzenbach family and now operating from Zurich, Vienna, and Hamburg. He chairs the firm's Investment Committee and, since 2024, serves as Managing Director of FINAD GmbH in Vienna. He brings more than 25 years of financial-markets experience to the role.
Tury began his career in 1988 as a Treasury Manager at Chase Manhattan Bank AG in Vienna, then moved into the derivatives market as Head of the Trade Monitoring Department at ÖTOB Clearing Bank AG (1991–1992). Through the 1990s he worked at Crédit Lyonnais — first in Trading and Sales at Crédit Lyonnais Bank AG (1993–1995), then as Managing Director of Fund Management at Crédit Lyonnais Kapitalanlagegesellschaft mbH (1995–1999). He subsequently served as an Executive Board Director for Investment Strategy at Security Kapitalanlage AG (1999–2001).
From 2001 to 2013 Tury ran portfolio management as Managing Partner of Tury Invest GmbH, his own investment firm, before joining FINAD in 2013 as Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director — a role he held through 2023 ahead of his current Vienna managing-director appointment.
On the academic side, Tury studied Sociology and Political Science at the University of Vienna (M.A.), with concurrent business-administration studies at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and an exchange semester at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. He later completed postgraduate studies in European Law, Politics and Economics (M.E.S.) at the Danube University Krems.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Operates as a discretionary multi-family-office CIO, not a venture/angel investor — his mandate is holistic, cross-generational wealth preservation and growth for affluent families, entrepreneurs, foundations, and institutions.
- In his own words: *"As a manager in a multi family office, we are all-rounders with a very in-depth understanding of a wide range of financial operations."*
- On what makes a good investor/decision-maker: *"I consider determination, discipline and staying adaptive to be crucial."*
- FINAD positions itself as "specialised generalists" and independent — *"we adapt the market to our clients, not the other way around"* — favoring tailored solutions over standard products.
- Like most multi-family offices, FINAD can allocate a portion of client portfolios to private markets (private equity, venture, real assets), typically via funds, co-investments, or club deals rather than direct primary seed rounds — but FINAD does not publicly disclose a startup/angel investment program.
Notable Investments
- No specific portfolio companies or startup deals attributable to Christian Tury are publicly disclosed. FINAD is a discretionary wealth manager that invests on behalf of client families across public and private markets; individual holdings and any private-market co-investments are not published. (Founders should treat the "angel investor / seed" label from the source stub with caution — it is not supported by any primary source found.)
