Background

Maia Heymann is Co-Founder and General Partner of Converge, a Cambridge, Massachusetts–based early-stage venture firm focused on disruptive B2B enterprise technology. She brings roughly 25 years of experience investing in and financing B2B tech companies, including some 20 years in venture capital. Over her career she has been involved in 60+ M&A transactions, 7 IPOs, and 25 board and observer roles.

Her operating and investing background is unusually deep on the finance side. She launched and led BancBoston Ventures' West Coast office in Palo Alto and later served as its President, managing a $340M portfolio following the Bank of America merger. She was a Managing Director at Shott Capital Management, overseeing $2.7B in limited-partner commitments before it was acquired by Hamilton Lane. Earlier, she was a technology banker at Robertson Stephens and worked in the Technology Group at Bank of Boston, underwriting more than $2.5B in structured debt facilities for Silicon Valley companies.

Converge itself grew out of CommonAngels, one of the earliest organized angel networks (founded 1998), which rebranded to Converge in 2015 as it moved from a network model to a committed venture fund structure. As Heymann explained the change, the firm wanted "to reflect more accurately our mission to bring together entrepreneurs, Venture Partners, and capital for success." Today the firm reports having managed roughly $560M in collective venture investments across a portfolio of ~100+ companies whose founders span 27 countries.

Heymann is a Wellesley College alumna and serves as a Trustee of Wellesley, where she chairs the Campus and Finance Committee and sits on the investment committee for the endowment. She is also a former Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Board Member of the New England Venture Capital Association.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests at pre-seed through Series A in B2B / enterprise software companies, historically in application, infrastructure, and data-enabling startups, and currently emphasizing agentic AI, cybersecurity, and fintech.
  • Evaluates opportunities primarily on two factors: market and team. She looks for technology-driven breakthroughs that open large "blue ocean" / white-space markets with high barriers to entry and clear adoption drivers.
  • Backs founders she describes as "exceptional outliers" — teams with clarity of vision, deep domain expertise, and the ability to execute on complex solutions.
  • In her own words on what makes her say yes (on the Chainalysis investment): *"The market was a white space with a massive need, and the team was exceptionally strong."*
  • Brings a "long-term, committed capital" posture, reflecting the firm's positioning as a patient partner to B2B founders rather than a spray-and-pray seed investor.

Notable Investments

  • Chainalysis — Blockchain investigation and crypto compliance software; early investment (~2015), now a unicorn serving 1,000+ financial institutions and law-enforcement agencies. Cited by Heymann as one of Converge's most successful bets.

  • BlueConic — Customer data platform (CDP) for marketers; acquired by Vista Equity Partners.
