Background

Marc Baliotti is a private-equity and structured-credit investor with more than 20 years of experience. He is currently a General Partner at Mare Liberum, a Miami-based investment firm focused on critical technologies reshaping the maritime domain. In March 2026, Mare Liberum announced a second fund that received preliminary approval from the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Pentagon's Office of Strategic Capital to operate as a Small Business Investment Company Critical Technologies (SBICCT) fund, eligible for up to $150 million in low-cost, government-guaranteed leverage. His fellow general partners include Rear Admiral Lorin Selby (Ret.), Erik Bethel, and Vrushank Vora, with board advisors including former Secretary of the Navy Kenneth Braithwaite and former Deputy National Security Advisor Matthew Pottinger.

Before Mare Liberum, Baliotti spent roughly six years at AE Industrial Partners (the firm behind aeroequity.com), which he joined as a Senior Managing Director on November 1, 2018, eventually serving as Head of AEI Structured Solutions. AE Industrial is a Boca Raton–based private-equity firm specializing in aerospace, defense, space, government services, and specialty industrial sectors, managing roughly $9 billion in assets and having completed more than 130 investments. At AE Industrial he built out the firm's structured-credit strategy and served on the boards of portfolio companies including Seanair and Fire Team Solutions.

Prior to AE Industrial, Baliotti spent over 13 years at GSO Capital Partners / Blackstone, where he was a Managing Director in the Performing Credit Group. While at GSO he led the investment team that partnered with AE Industrial to form Global Jet Capital, and he was involved in GSO's debt financing of AE Industrial's acquisition of Belcan. Earlier in his career he was a Principal at AIG Highstar Capital and worked at DLJ Merchant Banking Partners (DLJMB) and at Advanstar Communications, a DLJMB portfolio company; he has also been associated with Morgan Stanley. Over his career he has served on more than 20 corporate boards.

Baliotti is a U.S. Navy veteran. He earned a BS in Economics, with distinction, from the U.S. Naval Academy, and an MBA from Villanova University, which he completed while on active duty in the Navy. His naval background is central to Mare Liberum's national-security and maritime-defense investment focus.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests at the intersection of critical technologies and the maritime domain — naval/maritime security, trade, and technology — betting that ocean and naval infrastructure is being "remade in real time" by AI, autonomy, and advanced manufacturing.
  • In his own words: *"Commercial maritime is one of the great economic engines of civilization, and it's being remade in real time,"* and *"The convergence of AI, autonomy and advanced manufacturing is already reshaping maritime operations."*
  • Stages: flexible across seed, Series A, Series B, and growth equity; portfolio skews toward companies with product-market fit that are scaling revenue in defense or commercial maritime markets.
  • Sectors: autonomous maritime/surface vessels, maritime domain awareness software, counter-UAS and force protection, resilient logistics and supply-chain tech, robotics, advanced manufacturing, electronic warfare, electric maritime transport, and sovereign AI infrastructure.
  • Geography: U.S.-based companies only — consistent with the SBIC Critical Technologies and Office of Strategic Capital mandate to back domestic national-security-relevant technology.
  • Brings a structured-credit and control-buyout background, suggesting comfort with non-traditional capital structures alongside equity.

Notable Investments

  • Saronic Technologies — autonomous surface vessels for defense applications.
  • REGENT Craft — electric seagliders for coastal maritime transport.
  • Epirus — directed-energy / counter-electronics (counter-UAS) systems.
  • Windward — AI-driven maritime domain awareness platform.
  • Stealth Incubation — sovereign AI infrastructure venture.
  • Global Jet Capital — business-aviation finance platform he helped form by leading the GSO team that partnered with AE Industrial; he sat on its investment committee.
  • Seanair — AE Industrial portfolio company; board director.
  • Fire Team Solutions — AE Industrial portfolio company; board director.
  • Belcan — AE Industrial acquisition for which he helped arrange GSO debt financing.
