Background

Marc Alan Beilinson is a Los Angeles-based restructuring executive, attorney, independent director, and investor/operator. He received a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1980 and a J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law in 1983. The State Bar of California lists him as an active attorney admitted on December 12, 1983.

From 1992 to 2007, Beilinson practiced law at Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones, a nationally recognized corporate restructuring law firm. In a 2023 interview, he said he stepped away from legal practice at age 47 after being one of the lead attorneys of a 100-person law firm because he wanted to work more directly in the distressed-business community.

Since 2011, Beilinson has led Beilinson Advisory Group, described in public filings as a financial restructuring and hospitality advisory group that specializes in assisting distressed companies. He has held interim leadership roles including Chief Restructuring Officer of Newbury Common Associates, Fisker Automotive, and Innkeepers USA Trust, and Chief Restructuring Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Eagle Hospitality Properties Trust.

Beilinson also has extensive board experience. Apollo Global Management’s 2026 proxy describes him as an independent director, chair of Apollo’s compensation committee, and a member of its audit committee; he has served on Apollo’s board since January 2022. Playtika’s 2026 proxy states that he has served on Playtika’s board since June 2020, chairs its audit committee, and serves on its nominating and corporate governance committee. His prior board roles include Westinghouse Electric, Caesars Acquisition Company, Wyndham International, Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance, Innkeepers USA Trust, Gastar Exploration, Acosta, American Tire, Haggen Stores, Rentpath, KB US, 24 Holdings II, and Monitronics.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Beilinson’s work is centered on distressed and underperforming companies rather than conventional seed-stage venture investing. Beilinson Advisory Group describes its services as consulting, interim management, and independent director services designed to “maximize value for all stakeholders,” including hedge funds, private equity sponsors, financial institutions, creditors, and shareholders.
  • He looks for situations where governance, restructuring skill, stakeholder negotiation, and operational discipline can change outcomes. In the Omni acquisition, he said the transaction was an opportunity to “make smart investments in systems, people and processes” and create a better product for bankruptcy professionals.
  • His sector pattern is opportunistic across stressed or complex businesses rather than narrow industry specialization. He has worked across hotels, automotive, nuclear energy, gaming, financial services, restructuring administration, and public-company boards.
  • In his own advice to startups and early-stage businesses, he emphasizes team quality and self-awareness: “You can’t do it all” and founders should “find and partner up with the right people.”
  • He also emphasizes technology as an operating lever. In the same interview, he said technology can affect operations, margin, and business management, calling it “the biggest and best investment you can make” in a business.
