Background
Marc Harper is the Chief Financial Officer of West Partners and the Chief Executive Officer and CFO of West Family Holdings, the family office of telemarketing pioneers Gary and Mary West. He joined the West organization in 2010. Before that, he managed Deloitte Tax's Private Client Services practice in Orange County and was previously a Managing Director of myCFO, a high-net-worth advisory firm. He also serves as a CFO/board member at KiernanWest, an affiliated entity.
Harper is both a CPA and an attorney. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration with an option in professional accountancy from California State University, Long Beach, and a J.D. from Western State University College of Law. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Bar Association, and the California Society of CPAs.
Beyond his finance roles, Harper is a Trustee and Secretary of the Gary and Mary West Foundation and sits on numerous charitable boards across Orange County and San Diego County, reflecting the West family's philanthropic focus on healthcare and "successful aging." His work sits at the intersection of the family's operating businesses, its investment portfolio (West Partners / West Family Investments), and its philanthropic vehicles (West Health, the Gary and Mary West Foundation).
The West fortune originates with Gary and Mary West, who built WATS Marketing of America (later part of West Corporation); the Wests received roughly $1.45 billion for their stake when West Corp. went private in 2006. That capital now underpins the family office Harper helps run.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Permanent family capital, patient horizon: West Partners is the investment arm of the Gary & Mary West Family Office with "a permanent capital base and no outside investors," allowing flexible, non-fund-cycle timelines.
- Control investments, not passive angel checks: West Partners targets controlling stakes of roughly $10M–$100M in privately held companies in growing markets with strong management teams.
- Broad, multi-asset mandate: Across West Family Investments the strategy spans private equity, venture capital, real estate, fixed income, hedge funds, commodities, crypto, and ESG/impact — and every stage from seed through buyout, turnaround, and distressed.
- Sector breadth with a healthcare/aging tilt: Deals have spanned construction/engineering software, specialty finance, and banking technology, while the family's broader mission (via West Health) emphasizes healthcare and senior care.
- Real estate alongside operating companies: West Partners also invests directly in commercial real estate.
Notable Investments
- NoteVault, Inc. — San Diego voice-to-text mobile field-reporting software for construction/engineering; West Partners closed an initial investment (2014) and a follow-on (Dec 2014); company was acquired/exited in June 2020.

- Asset Development Group — Manufactured-housing company acquired by West Partners.
- West Health Investment Fund holdings (related West family healthcare vehicle) — including Sotera Wireless, Healthsense, and Humedica (clinical informatics), reflecting the family's healthcare/aging investment theme.
