Background
Marco Guidolin is a Managing Partner of Alcedo SGR, an independent, management-controlled Italian private equity firm headquartered in Treviso and one of the country's longest-established growth-capital investors (active since 1987, with more than 70 direct and indirect investments and roughly €800 million in assets under management). He graduated in Economics from the University of Venice (Ca' Foscari) and began his career in 2001 as a project analyst at 21 Investimenti, the private equity group founded by Alessandro Benetton.
In 2002 he joined the Alcedo team, where he has been involved from the outset across the full investment lifecycle — sourcing, structuring, closing, value creation and exit. Within the partnership he also leads fundraising activity in Italy and abroad, and he sits on Alcedo's board as a Consigliere Delegato (executive director). Over his two decades at the firm he has worked across multiple successive Alcedo funds, the most recent being Alcedo V (which closed at around €235 million in mid-2022).
Alcedo positions itself as offering "more than just capital," acting as a strategic partner to entrepreneurs and managers to fund growth both organically and through buy-and-build acquisitions. As one of the firm's senior partners, Guidolin is part of the leadership group (alongside Maurizio Tiveron, Franco Valvasori, Michele Gallo and Filippo Nalon) that drives this growth-partnership model.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests through closed-end, reserved alternative investment funds in profitable, established Italian SMEs, not start-ups — typically companies with €10–120 million in sales.
- Growth capital and growth buyouts: takes majority or significant minority stakes with equity tickets of roughly €5–30 million.
- Builds strategic partnerships with entrepreneurs and management teams, backing shared business plans to accelerate growth organically and via add-on acquisitions ("buy-and-build").
- Sector-agnostic but biased toward "Italian excellence" — distinctive companies with defensible niches, export potential and strong management.
- Geographically concentrated on Northern and Central Italy, where the firm's Treviso base gives it deep local network access.
Notable Investments
- Pixartprinting — Web-to-print online printing leader (Quarto d'Altino); sold to Vistaprint/Cimpress in 2014 at an enterprise value of ~€150 million (~9.8x EBITDA), one of Alcedo's signature exits.
- Friulair — Manufacturer of compressed-air dryers, filters and industrial refrigeration systems (Cervignano del Friuli); exited February 2024.
- PA Group (P.A. ABS S.r.l. and P.A. Expertise S.r.l.) — SAP and Microsoft system-integration specialists, acquired from the Retelit Group in 2024 by a pool led by Alcedo V (with FVS SGR, Friulia and Clessidra Capital Credit).
- Ekalab — Producer of natural food supplements (20+ years in market); Alcedo V acquired ~64.2% in 2024.
- Marino Belotti — Acquired July 2024 via Alcedo V.
- Duplomatic Motion Solutions — Hydraulic and motion-control group; Alcedo reached an agreement with Daikin Industries for the company in 2022.
- Other portfolio names include Alveo, EDEA, D.S. Medica Tecnologie, Persefone, GSP, Nethive, Atlantic Stars, Alpha Test and Kedrion.
