Background

Marco Rayneri is the founder, Founding Partner, and Chief Executive Officer of Aksìa Group SGR, a Milan-based private-equity manager. He has been active in the Italian private-equity industry since 1990. Before establishing the Aksìa platform, he worked at JP Morgan and at Sanpaolo Finance (now part of Intesa Sanpaolo). He graduated in Economics and Business Administration from Thames Valley University in London.

Aksìa manages a succession of buyout funds (Aksìa Capital I through VI) and today oversees roughly €600 million in assets under management, having made 60+ investments through a team of 20+ professionals. The firm invests primarily in medium-sized Italian companies, backing management teams to drive organic growth, buy-and-build add-on strategies, and international expansion. In 2023 Italian PE press reported Aksìa raising more than €275 million for one of its funds, beating its hard cap.

Beyond his executive role at Aksìa, Rayneri has held numerous board seats across portfolio and related companies. Public directory records list him as Chairman of Covisian S.p.A. (from 2016), and as a board director at companies including Turbosol Produzione, Robuschi, and Novation Group — reflecting the hands-on governance role Aksìa typically takes in its holdings.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in small and medium-sized Italian companies through buyouts, MBO/MBIs, and growth-capital deals — not early-stage/seed angel investing.
  • Typical equity tickets historically in the ~€5–25 million range per deal, deployed from institutional buyout funds.
  • Core sector emphasis on healthcare/medical devices, food production, and industrials, with a track record also in services and technology.
  • Favors a buy-and-build / add-on model: acquire a platform, then bolt on complementary businesses (e.g., building Valpizza into a frozen-food group via multiple acquisitions).
  • Emphasis on management reinforcement, organic expansion, and international development of Italian mid-market companies.

Notable Investments

  • Covisian (Services) — #2 Italian player in contact centers/BPO, formed by merging Visiant Contact and Contacta; held under Aksìa Capital IV, with Rayneri as Chairman since 2016.
  • Valpizza (Food) — Leading frozen-pizza producer; Aksìa Capital V acquired a majority stake (July 2020) and executed multiple add-ons, including C&D (2021), LA PIZZA+1, and Megic Pizza.

  • IREX (Industrial) — Acquired by Aksìa Capital V in July 2022.
