Background

Marcus Grimshaw co-founded The Fiducia Group in 2001 together with Anthony Scott, and continues to lead it as Group Chief Executive Officer. Both founders are former commercial and private bankers; Scott has described working alongside Grimshaw during his time at NatWest between 1995 and 2001, and Grimshaw's earlier career includes a track record within the RBS Group. The name "Fiducia" — Latin for trust, confidence and security — reflects the firm's stated founding principle of letting clients "build a long-term relationship with the same person."

Under Grimshaw, Fiducia has grown into a multi-division group spanning financial planning, corporate finance, commercial (specialist) finance and mortgage services, backed by a senior team the firm says carries more than 150 years of combined financial-services experience. The regulated financial-planning arm has historically operated as part of the Openwork Partnership network — where Grimshaw has held board-level positions — rather than seeking direct FCA authorisation, which the firm views as beneficial for product assessment and compliance oversight.

Beyond the firm, Grimshaw served a two-year term as Chairman of the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB), to which he was elected around 2013–2014. In that role he championed higher standards of regulation and professional practice across the commercial-finance broking sector, campaigning under the message "Together we are stronger, together we are the NACFB." He remains an active industry voice, most recently overseeing the expansion of the Fiducia Commercial Network.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Grimshaw's professional activity centres on arranging and advising on finance for UK trading businesses and property investors, rather than taking equity stakes as a startup angel. Fiducia Commercial Solutions is described as a "whole-of-market commercial finance brokerage."
  • Through Fiducia's corporate finance division, the group advises SMEs on capital raising, acquisitions, disposals and refinancing — an intermediary/advisory role, not a fund deploying its own capital.
  • The consistent stated ethos across all divisions is long-term, relationship-led service: "you cannot put a price on a business truly knowing a client and being with them over a period of many years."
  • No publicly stated seed/angel investment thesis, check size or sector screen could be verified from primary sources.

Notable Investments

  • No verifiable startup or angel investments were found. Despite an aggregator listing him as an "Angel Investor" active in "Seed Round" deals, searches of company registries, deal databases and press turned up no confirmed venture or angel deals attributable to Marcus Grimshaw.
  • His verifiable "deals" are in the context of The Fiducia Group's commercial-finance and corporate-finance advisory work — i.e. arranging debt/finance and M&A for client businesses — which is distinct from personal equity investing. Specific client transactions are not publicly disclosed.
