Background

Marcus Planting-Bergloo is a Managing Partner of Amplio Private Equity, the Stockholm-based firm that was known as Segulah until it rebranded on 1 February 2024. He joined Segulah in 2007 and has been part of the same investment team ever since, making him one of the firm's longest-tenured partners and a central figure in its transition into Amplio. Segulah was one of Sweden's established mid-market private equity houses, and the rebrand to Amplio was described by the team as a "strategic shift" to better align the name with a refocused strategy built around business services and IT services.

Before entering private equity, Planting-Bergloo worked as a management consultant, first at Occam Associates in Stockholm and then at LEK Consulting in London. He holds an MSc in Economics & Business Administration from the Stockholm School of Economics.

In his role he sits on the boards of the firm's fund vehicles and portfolio companies. Current board assignments include Amplio Private Equity, Amplio Fund I and Fund II, Segulah Fund V, Hermes Medical Solutions and SELATEK. His prior board seats span a long list of Nordic mid-market companies including Balco, Beerenberg, Scan Coin, St Eriks, Ø. Oglaend (Oglaend), Sandbäckens, NVBS and Francks Kylindustri — reflecting a career built around industrials, business services and buy-and-build platforms.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests via control buyouts (majority ownership) in the Nordic lower mid-market, not early-stage venture or angel deals.
  • Targets Business Services and IT & Technology Services companies; typical targets have enterprise values of ~SEK 100–500m.
  • Core value-creation playbook is professionalisation and buy-and-build — "at the core of their DNA," used to turn regional businesses into Nordic market leaders.
  • Organises investing around three thematic pillars: Sustainable Solutions, Digital Business Efficiency, and Smart Urbanisation, with sustainability positioned "at its core."
  • On the Amplio strategy, the team framed the rebrand as "not just a name change, but a strategic shift" toward a systematic, repeatable value-creation model.

Notable Investments

  • Francks Kylindustri — Nordic commercial/industrial refrigeration installation & service provider (~650 employees, 50 sites across SE/NO/DK/FI). Acquired by Segulah V in 2019; grown >4x revenue and ~5x profitability via buy-and-build; exited to IK Partners in 2025 (announced Aug 2025, completed ~Oct 2025). Board seat held by Planting-Bergloo.
  • Hermes Medical Solutions — Provider of advanced medical imaging software (Segulah V, 2016); he currently sits on its board.
  • SELATEK — Security solutions, electrical installation and automation services (Amplio I, 2021); current board seat.
  • Co-native — Cloud/IT technology services group in Sweden (Amplio I, 2022).
  • Tedge — Energy optimization platform / technical services and maintenance (Amplio I, 2023).
  • S R Intelligence (SRI) — Swedish specialist in regulatory compliance and personnel security (Amplio II, 2025).
  • Multisoft — Low-code software provider (exited 2026).
  • Other Segulah V holdings: IT-Total (IT infrastructure services, 2019), Pelly Group (kitchen/wardrobe storage manufacturer, 2018).
