Background

Mark L. Feidler (born c. 1958) is an Atlanta-based lawyer, operating executive, and private equity investor. He earned a B.A. in economics from Duke University (1978) and a J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School (1981). He began his career as a corporate attorney at King & Spalding (1981–1986), then moved into investment banking at The Robinson-Humphrey Company (1986–1990).

Feidler spent roughly 15 years in senior roles across the BellSouth/Cingular telecom complex. From 1991 to 2000 he served as Head of Corporate Development for BellSouth and as president of various operating subsidiaries. From 2000 to 2003 he was Chief Operating Officer of Cingular Wireless, the joint venture formed when BellSouth and SBC/AT&T merged their domestic wireless operations. He subsequently became President and Chief Operating Officer of BellSouth Corporation, serving until the company's merger with AT&T in December 2006.

In 2007, Feidler co-founded MSouth Equity Partners, a private equity firm that continues a lower middle-market investing strategy with a more than 40-year lineage in the Southeast. As a founding partner he brings a blend of M&A/transactional experience and hands-on operating leadership to the firm's portfolio companies.

Beyond MSouth, Feidler is a prominent corporate director. He joined the Equifax board in 2007 and, in September 2017, was elevated to non-executive Chairman in the wake of the company's major data breach, succeeding Richard F. Smith. He also serves on the board of New York Life Insurance Company.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in lower middle-market companies (enterprise value ~$25M–$250M), not startups — the "Angel/Seed" label in the source stub does not match MSouth's actual strategy.
  • Transaction types are management buyouts, control acquisitions, and recapitalizations of established, profitable businesses.
  • Stated strategy: *"We invest with the objective of increasing operating cash flow through growth initiatives and active ownership."*
  • Core philosophy: *"A key element of our investment strategy is partnering with experienced management teams to create value"* — MSouth positions itself as *"the partner of choice for exceptional management teams in the South."*
  • Sector concentration in business services, healthcare, manufacturing, media & telecom, and specialty distribution, areas where the firm has deep operating and transactional experience.
  • Regionally focused on the U.S. South, run out of Atlanta.
