Mark Jaffray

Mark Thomas Jaffray is a London-based investor and a partner at Chimera Partners, a small London advisory and principal-investment firm focused on structured finance, capital markets and venture capital. Chimera Partners was established around 2008–2009 — Companies House records show Jaffray was appointed a director of Chimera Partners Limited on 9 February 2009 — and the firm was built by a team with deep capital-markets pedigree (co-partner Ben Gill spent some 25 years at Barclays Capital and Morgan Stanley across London, New York and the Middle East). The firm operated from More London Riverside (3 More London Riverside, London SE1 2RE) and ran as a two-partner shop, Jaffray and Ben Gill.

Jaffray's training is in law and accounting: he holds an LLB (Hons) / BCA in Law and Accounting from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, and has completed executive-education certificates at Harvard Business School, London Business School, and the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Through Chimera he has acted as both an investor and an active board member, taking director and non-executive seats at portfolio companies rather than passively allocating capital.

Across his career he has held directorships in a number of Chimera-affiliated and personal investment vehicles (including Chimera Partners Trading Ltd, Chimera Partners Investments Ltd, Mawson Capital Ltd and a set of "Gotham"-named entities), and operating-company board seats at Brainomix, Fuel3D and Rota (BE Rota Ltd). His investing style is hands-on and long-horizon — Chimera describes assembling "a core group of shareholders that take a long-term view on the technology and management" of the companies it backs.

Note: several investor databases now list Chimera Partners as closed/inactive, with its most recent recorded new investment in early 2022; treat the firm as low-activity rather than a currently deploying fund.
